2013-2017 The historic covers of Avion Tourism Magazine

The third edition undergoes a responsible direction renewal, as well as changes in format, graphics, editorial content proposal, and distribution
In 2013, Avion Tourism Magazine celebrates its 10th anniversary since its first issue in 2003. To mark this significant milestone, the magazine undergoes a profound renewal, both in its editorial leadership, now led by Angela Trivigno (formerly editorial coordinator of previous editions), and in its graphic presentation. Additionally, Avion changes its name to Avion Tourism Magazine, reflecting an expansion of its focus and ambitions.
This renewal extends beyond just the design and name but also to the magazine's format, adapting to provide an even more enjoyable reading experience aimed at entertaining passengers in a more engaging and informative manner.
Moreover, on the occasion of this important event, Avion Tourism Magazine decides to expand its distribution, moving beyond the airport and reaching an even broader audience, thereby solidifying its presence in the publishing landscape.

The inaugural edition of 2013 marks a turning point for Avion Tourism Magazine, presenting itself to readers with a new, larger rectangular format (20x26.5 cm), accompanied by a renewed aesthetic both on the cover and in the internal pages.
The cover redesign sees a noticeable graphic transformation of the logo: the dot of the "i" changes from round to square, with the word "Tourism" inside it and a larger image, including a quote from the main articles in the issue, now placed within the cover rather than at the bottom as in the previous edition.

Inside the magazine, all sections are completely revamped, from the initial "Summary" to the "Airport" section that concludes the publication. The "Events" section provides an overview of the most relevant initiatives in various cities, presented alphabetically for easy reference. Articles dedicated to "Destinations" are enriched with large and visually impactful photographs, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the described cities. Each article provides practical information on how to reach the city center from the arrival airport, as well as suggestions on what to see among monuments, museums, and excursions not to be missed during the visit. Additionally, both national and international destinations are presented, all linked to Milan Bergamo Airport.

A distinctive feature of Avion Tourism Magazine, in each edition, is the attention given to the Lombard territories, particularly to Bergamo and its province. This dedication translates into a section dedicated to articles highlighting the local beauties and visit opportunities of the region.

The magazine closes with the "Airport" and "Airlines" sections, also revamped, providing transit passengers at the airport with detailed information on the main activities and services offered, as well as on the airlines operating connections to an ever-increasing number of destinations reachable from Milan Bergamo

Below are the magazines of the third edition of Avion Tourism Magazine, from issue 46 to issue 65, published between the beginning of 2013 and the end of 2017. Each publication with its summary and editorial, faithfully reflects the constant and gradual growth of Milan Bergamo Airport, the news of its connections, and the services offered to passengers who have chosen to travel from the Bergamo airport for their tourist and business trips.

EDITORIAL Avion Tourism Magazine N46/2013
This year is an important anniversary year: it is 10 years since the first issue of Avion was published in 2003. To mark this special event, is getting a new look, in its management, graphics, format and name, becoming Avion Tourism, to entertain its reader in even more interesting ways. But that's not all. For this occasion Avion Tourism is expanding its circulation. The airport passenger can find the magazine as usual in Milan Bergamo Airport, but it is also available in the IAT - Tourist Information Offices, in some of Avion Tourism's most interesting partner cities: Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Milan and Monza. Specific information not only for tourists arriving, but also for residents of Lombardy who perhaps wish to plan their next trip and may find useful tips in the magazine. Other partners, such as selected hotels or exhibition centres and selected international events, also offer Avion Tourism.
Finally, beginning with this issue, Avion Tourism is also available in a worldwide digital version to be downloaded onto your computer, smart phone or tablet from international digital newsagents so that you can read it wherever and whenever you wish. There will also be plenty of other surprises throughout 2013.
In this issue we are accompanying you on interesting journeys to three of the world's best known religious destinations: the Holy Land, Medjugorje and Lourdes, centres of energy for the faithful. But also Moscow, which can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport with the airline Air Dolomiti, that boasts an 865 year old history. Or Maastricht, which is home to reminders of a medieval past, but looks to the future by competing for the title of European Capital of Culture for 2018. And then we take you to Dubai, and invite you to take a trip among its outstanding attractions that abound in every corner of the city, with a cosmopolitan charm.
For those of you who love the stars and the aurora borealis, we suggest some unusual observation points: the ice or glass igloos of Sweden, Switzerland and Finland, unique places to stay, but unforgettable. Airport information has been included at the end of each article so that you can organise your trip in the best possible way. The articles continue with news on the best low-cost European airlines and European carriers and end with interviews with the Chairman of Sacbo S.p.A., Miro Radici, to discuss the results achieved by Milan Bergamo Airport in 2012, and Ryanair's Head of Communications, Robin Kiely, to look at the company's 10 years of activity at its Milan Bergamo base.

EDITORIAL Avion Tourism Magazine N48/2013
Avion Tourism looks towards an autumn teeming with destinations ripe for exploring: destinations that conceal a thousand surprises, such as Groningen, one of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands situated on the Wadden Sea in Friesland, which in 2009 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; or Paris, a splendid city to visit at any time of the year because, with an abundance of museums, monuments and churches, it offers a heritage of richness and diversity without comparison - it's no surprise to learn that it's the most visited city in the world.
We then fly to Skopje, capital of the Republic of Macedonia and the largest city in the country, which has been able to renew its image and acquire a unique charm by means of a combination of cheerful atmosphere, accessibility and wonderful hospitality.
For foreign tourists thinking of taking a ski holiday, we are featuring a special article on "winter sport in the mountains of Lombardy", a country that offers countryside and natural landmarks of great beauty, which is ideal for planning a holiday on the snow and enjoying activities on the pistes and snow-covered mountains.
Lastly, we visit Almaty in Kazakhstan, a beautiful city at the foot of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, situated in a hill area that slopes towards steppe-like plains and on to Lake Balkash. If instead you wish to stay in an unusual hotel off the beaten track, we offer some suggestions: a lodge in the tropical rain forest, an astronomical observation dome, a lighthouse on the sea or train carriages transformed into bed and breakfast accommodation.
In our article dedicated to the world of airports, you'll find information on the launch of Milan Bergamo Airport's new Welcome Card and the "ATRS World Conference 2013", which periodically brings together important figures from the international air transport industry and which held its 17h conference last June here in Bergamo. Lastly, our "Why?" column gives practical information on the world of low-cost airports: how to choose a low-cost flight and tips for baggage limits, something of interest to all travellers.

Planning a trip during the winter months has its charm. You can choose between visiting a destination with a mild, pleasant climate such as the Canary Islands, and here we are proposing Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, havens in the midst of the ocean with wonderful beaches and natural splendours in which to explore or escape from the crowds; or if you prefer the cold, we suggest Lappeenranta, a splendid city to visit at any time of the year, which is best known for the numerous sporting activities it offers by making the most of its beautiful natural resources. Visitors to Lappeenranta at this time of the year can enjoy fishing or ice-skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walks in the woods or in snow-covered parks or even boat trips on the icy waters of its lakes and rivers.

For those of you who wish to visit Italy, we suggest a holiday of relaxation and physical and mental well-being at the characteristic Spas of Lombardy, which are the perfect place to get back into shape. Packing suitcases for a new trip is always exciting and implies the exploration of new horizons, the discovery of important sights, unique attractions and unexpected settings to enjoy with a frame of mind open to the splendours of the cities that welcome us.
This we find in Rome, the eternal city renowned worldwide for its extraordinary beauty which, although known by many, provides endless thrilling experiences. The city's timeless charm means there is always something to discover, and much has remained unchanged since the time of the great Roman Empire. It is also the case with Athens, cradle of classical civilisation, a place filled with valuable monuments and a rich archaeological heritage, which continues to amaze for its artistic resources - just one visit to the Acropolis is sufficient to take your breath away; or colourful Lisbon, majestic and elegant, filled with charm and history, which preserves monuments constructed in Manueline and Baroque architectural styles. We also feature cities that are genuine gems, such as Malaga, the pearl of the Costa del Sol, which is custodian to the unique splendour of Andalusia and embodies its most characteristic features; or, beyond European borders, Moscow with its centuries of history, which carefully preserves the legacy of the past, but is also a modern and vibrant metropolis open to the future. Known as one of the coldest cities in the world and often covered in snow, in summer it offers excellent temperatures and can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport on an Air Dolomiti flight with a short stopover in Munich and then onwards on a Lufthansa or Star Alliance flights.
We also have news from the world of airports: the new runway at Milan Bergamo Airport, which was built in record time - an unprecedented event - and is now an advanced aeronautical infrastructure in terms of both quality and technology. We also take a look at the Best European Airlines of 2014, voted directly by passengers via the yearly Skytrax survey, which were given their awards at the Farborough International Airshow.
But the discovery of new travel destinations doesn't end here; it continues on the internet, on the Airport Tourism Information Portal AvionTourism.com, which is tailor made for any device so that it can accompany you wherever you go, offering useful information for organising and enjoying your travels in Europe in the best possible way. It provides information on many interesting cities, on the airports and airlines operating flights to these cities, and on the local tourism boards. Emotions to enjoy and share - just a click away. The winter season, a time of year for important celebrations, is an excellent occasion to prepare your suitcases and set off in discovery of beautiful cities which, enveloped in the wild charm of the cold season, take on an almost fairy-tale atmosphere.
Like Prague, a world-famous tourist and cultural city, whose old town has been on Unesco's list of World Heritage Sites since 1992. Under the snow, Charles Bridge, the Castle and the Astronomical Clock of Prague are swathed in a truly magical atmosphere. But even the historical chief town of Nottinghamshire, made famous by the legend of Robin Hood, is equally fascinating. Nottingham is in fact one of the most popular tourist destinations in England, with a fascinating past and rich in interesting attractions. And Copenhagen, the welcoming capital of Denmark, which from 26 March 2015 will be accessible from Milan Bergamo Airport. With its majestic royal palaces, the Tivoli Gardens, the Little Mermaid and some of the world's most ground-breaking buildings, it is a people-friendly city that can be enjoyed on foot or by bike, even in winter, as is usual among the locals.
If, instead, you wish to stay in Italy, far from the chaos of the summer period, we recommend a visit to the city of Cagliari which, with all its beauty, overlooks the centre of the Golfo degli Angeli (Gulf of Angels), on the southern coast of Sardinia. This chief town, rich in centuries of history, is situated in an enviable geographic position and has a dynamic, lively atmosphere.
For ski lovers, the Lombardy mountains, with their ski resorts served by lifts that connect downhill slopes and cross-country trails, are instead an ideal destination for spending a holiday on snow.
If you wish to venture across the Ocean, we recommend New York. This legendary city is loved by all and particularly convenient during the winter months when hotels offer accommodation at very avantageous prices. New York is accessible from Milan Bergamo Airport with a brief stop in Munich Airport after a flight with Air Dolomiti, continuing on with Lufthansa and Star Alliance flights.
In the 'Airports' column, we highlight the new outdoor car park of Milan Bergamo Airport, which will be open to passengers from December 2014, and an interview with Fulvio Fassone, Vice President Business Development of the "European Travel Retail Confederation" who discussed with Avion Tourism the European situation with regard to airport Travel Retail.
But Avion Tourism's destinations do not end here, they continue online, on the Airport Tourist Information website, www.aviontourism.com, which provides tourist information on Europe's most beautiful cities, their airports, the airlines operating from these places and the local tourist boards. This useful tool for organising a trip can be enjoyed from any device.

An island such as Mykonos, the trendiest of the Cyclades, an alluring place with fantastic beaches, clear blue sea and lively nightlife. The Baltic capitals of Vilnius, Tallinn and Riga, overlooking the Baltic Sea, preserve an important historical and cultural heritage that coexists harmoniously with contemporary modernity. All cities are highly recommended, above all during the summer months when the fresh, mild climate offers a welcome change for many tourists.
Riga can be easily admired on foot and has some fascinating medieval architecture in its old town, as well as Gothic style churches and elegant Art Nouveau buildings. Vilnius, much loved by young people for its artistic flair and large number of events, boasts the largest old town centre in Eastern Europe, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tallinn, whose old town is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is instead dotted with characteristic medieval towers and enchanting Gothic churches.
We also review Constanta, which lies on the western shore of the Black Sea. One of the most interesting cities in Romania, it is well worth visiting for its architectural styles, historic buildings and
unique archeological remains.
Expo Milano 2015 is another unique destination for visitors from all over the world and remains open until the end of October. We focus on some of the best pavilions and a few extremely interesting art exhibitions. And for those travelling to Milan to visit the Expo, we recommend taking a look at the whole of Lombardy, which offers an artistic heritage that also combines history, culture and lifestyle.
We suggest stopping not only to look at Milan city centre, but also the wonderful old towns of Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona, Mantua, Monza and Pavia, which all preserve a wealth of truly exceptional art and architecture, and Como and Lecco, which, as well as their beautiful old towns, offer a large lake, ideal for holidaying during the hot summer months.
Overseas, instead, we travel in discovery of Los Angeles, one of the most important cities of the United States, where you can live the Californian dream by visiting, for example, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Dossi the splendid beaches of Santa Monica. Los Angeles can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport after a short flight to Munich Airport with Air Dolomiti and then a further flight with Lufthansa or Star Aliance.
Lastly, we look at the new work to expand the passenger terminal at Milan Bergamo Airport, which now has a façade of 300 metres and an increased overall area of approximately 22,400 m}. The new passenger terminal wing comprises four new boarding gates, a new shopping area and, on the ground floor, a similarly sized arrivals area. Milan Bergamo Airport is ready to receive the flow of visitors to Expo and is the airport of reference for the eastern part of Lombardy.
Further information on Europe's beautiful cities can be found on the Airport Tourist Information Portal, www.aviontourism.com, which provides information on airports, airlines and tourist boards. We leave in discovery of Sicily, undoubtedly an extremely popular destination due to its coastline and sea, but also because of beautiful cities such as Trapani, Palermo and Catania, which offer a truly unique artistic, cultural and historic heritage.
Trapani sits at the foot of the rugged Mount Erice and extends to the sea. A small city with Baroque buildings that distinguish the old town, it can be visited in just one day. Palermo, capital of the island, founded by the Phoenicians almost 3,000 years ago, is a city known for its history, culture, architecture and gastronomy dating back thousands of years, it is also a meeting place between different eastern and western cultures. Instead Catania, the second largest city in Sicily, offers a rich artistic, architectural and cultural heritage; its Baroque old town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In the eastern part of Slovakia, we find the city of Kosice, the country's second largest city, nestled in a valley of the same name. With a rich and glorious past, its old town centre is a real gem with valuable monuments, historic buildings and interesting archeological sites.
Ideal destinations for wellness treatments are the Spas of Lombardy, a region that boasts a long tradition of thermal tourism. Many are located in exquisite natural environments between beautiful mountains and attractive lakes. Together, well discover the spas of Angolo, Boario, Bormio, Milan, Miradolo, Rivazzano, Salice, San Pellegrino, Sirmione and Trescore Balneario.
Outside Europe we travel in discovery of Tel Aviv, a city that extends for some 14 kilometres along the Mediterranean Sea. The first modern Jewish metropolis built in Israel, it is now an important economic and cultural centre for the country. Tel Aviv can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport after a brief stop at Istanbul Airport (SAW) with Pegasus Airlines; connecting flights to Tel Aviv are with the same airline.
In our section devoted to airports, you'll find an interesting interview with Emilio Bellingardi, the new Managing Director of Milan Bergamo Airport to retrace his important professional career in the airport sector, and to assess the current situation at the airport and lear more about its future prospects. Lastly, we take a look at the II'" annual "ACI Europe Best Airport Awards", which reward the best European airports of 2015. Receiving accolades were London City, Cologne-Bonn, Milan Malpensa and London Heathrow.
You'll also find more information on all the beautiful European cities connected to Milan Bergamo Airport on the Airport Tourist Information Portal www.aviontourism.com, which provides details of some 110 destinations, with information on their airports, airlines and tourist boards of reference. Specially developed so that it can be used on any device - PC, tablet or mobile phone - the website also offers suggestions on the best way to organise a holiday in Europe.

Now that winter has arrived, Italians begin to plan their eagerly awaited holiday on the snow. Lovers of sports on the snow-covered peaks and valleys will find a wide selection of skiing destinations in the splendid resorts of the Lombardy mountain area, which is abundant with valleys such as Valsassina, Valmalenco, Valchiavenna, Valtellina, Val Camonica, Val Brembana, Val Seriana and Val di Scalve. In this issue we focus on each valley with sports activities that can be practised throughout the new season. Visitors to Italy from abroad will find that Milan Bergamo Airport is without doubt an excellent starting point for rapidly reaching any of these Lombardy valleys.
Starting from Milan Bergamo Airport, another fascinating destination is Moscow, which is considered to be one of the world most northern and coldest cities. With the Kremlin and Red Square, one of the many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it is a world-class coveted tourist destination. Certainly, it's a city worth visiting at least once in your life, and during the winter months, covered with a white blanket of snow, it is a place of incomparable beauty.
If, instead, you wish to go in discovery of new continents and different horizons, we are proposing three splendid cities in Morocco: Casablanca, famous for the Mosque of Hassan Il with its very high minaret, the old medina with its narrow, winding alleys and the church of Notre Dame de Lourdes; Fèz, the oldest of the former imperial cities, whose medina, monuments, markets and mosques are steeped in history, and where you can stroll along narrow alley ways or visit its famous "medrasas", an experience that magically transports you back in time; lastly, Marrakech, an old fortified town centre bustling with merchants, also known for the largest Berber souk in the country and for its magical evenings.
Another fascinating journey takes us to the Cabo Verde gems of Sal and Boa Vista, an opportunns to learn about a different tropical zone that comprises rocks, wild beaches, turquoise blue sea and small welcoming villages. Sal is also an excellent starting point for continuing your journey onto other interesting nearby destinations such as Dakar, the gateway to sub-Saharan Africa, which extends along the southern part of the peninsula of Cap-Vert on the Atlantic Ocean, and is one the most European of African cities. Dakar can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport with a brief stop at Sal Airport with TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and then via a connecting flight of just 1.45 hours to Dakar in Senegal with the same airline.
Lastly, we take a look at the newly refurbished terminal area of Milan Bergamo Airport, which is now an innovative, modern area with an array of top-range services. Passengers through the airport can enjoy greater comfort, a better quality offer and numerous boutiques of prestigious brands, making the wait for a flight much more enjoyable.
We hope you'l also pay a visit to the tourism information website of the airport aviontourism.com where you can find, in a single space, other practical tourist information on the most beautiful European cities, together with useful details on arrival and departure airports, airlines and relevant tourist boards.
Have a great trip with Avion Tourism.

At last, with the arrival of spring, we can expand our travel horizons. We begin to think of warm days spent on beautiful beaches lapped by the waves of a turquoise-blue sea, perhaps on a secluded island far from the major cities. In the Mediterranean Sea, some of these are easy to reach and in a short time you can find yourself in another world. Like Pantelleria, which offers one of most unspoilt natural and marine environments of the Mediterranean, with coral reefs, "favare" (jets of hot steam), spa waters and parks; Zante, famous for its luxuriant vegetation, but also for its imposing cliffs and white sandy beaches sitting in small untouched bays that look onto a deep blue sea; and Menorca, an island abundant with natural parks and an important Biosphere, which also features white sandy beaches alternating with rocky points that offer splendid views of amazing sunsets across the sea.
If you prefer to combine a visit to a beautiful city with an adventurous discovery of nature, we suggest Oslo, which is situated at the end of one of the most beautiful fjords of the country and surrounded by small islands and forest-covered mountains. After touring the city, with its multiple tourist and cultural attractions, you could explore the beauty of some of Norway's most beautiful fjords and enjoy the wonderful spectacle of the aurora borealis or the characteristic sun at midnight.
Another interesting journey takes us instead to Tehran, giving us the opportunity to learn more about the gateway to ancient Persia. The beating heart of ran, this is the most advanced city of the country. which offers a travel experience filled with nature, history and culture. Tehran can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport, with a short stop at Istanbul Airport (SAW), via Pegasus Airlines, continuing on from Istanbul with the same airline, which from here reaches Tehran in 4 hours and 40 minutes.
For visitors staying or visiting Lombardy, we suggest a spiritual tour of the Jubilee churches and Holy Doors, interesting destinations for faithful pilgrims and symbolic places of worship for experiencing the emotive Jubilee of Mercy, even in Lombardy's most beautiful art cities.
Finally we take a look at the airline BMI Regional which is launching a new route from Milan Bergamo Airport to Munich, a hub that offers over 200 destinations in collaboration with Lufthansa, allowing passengers leaving from Bergamo to check in just once and proceed on code-share flights to their final destination. We also present the airline Blue Panorama, which through its low-cost blu-express flights offers many interesting tourist destinations for all summer 2016, also from Milan Bergamo Airport.
Avion Tourism also awaits you at the Airport Tourist Information Portal aviontourism.com, where you can find tourist information on the most beautiful cities in Europe, on arrival and departure airports, airlines and tourist boards and on many other useful services for organising your holiday in the best possible way.

This is a special issue because Avion Tourism Magazine has reached its 60th edition! To celebrate this important milestone, we want to share with all our loyal readers and travellers, arriving or leaving from Milan Bergamo Airport, all the successful events that have, over the years, accompanied the exponential growth of the airport, which is now the third largest in Italy for passenger numbers.
In this issue, those arriving at Milan Bergamo Airport will find a special report dedicated to the wonderful cities of Lombardy, all just a short distance away and well work visiting, such as Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Mantua, Milan, Monza, Pavia, Sirmione o Vigevano each of which has a unique and world-renowned artistic heritage.
Instead, for those leaving, we decided not to focus on a particular destination, but instead give space to all destinations served by the airport by means of a substantial and emblematic photo gallery that covers the countries linked, the cities served, the travel times, the airlines providing the services and the frequency of their flights, and the contact details for tourist information. We also take a look at the long-haul destinations that can be reached via a short stop in Munich, Moscow or Istanbul with just one convenient check-in at Milan Bergamo Airport.
This clearly demonstrates the variety and quantity of destinations that the airport today offers its business and tourist passengers. This has been achieved by the airport management company making investments that have helped the airport to continue its growth and offer services and infrastructures that live up to our modern times, but also by looking to the future with an airport development plan in place until 2030. The airport management company wants to share this tale of success with its passengers, who reward the company each day by choosing Milan Bergamo as their airport of choice, by managing this growth together with all its workers, partners and airlines, who continue to believe and invest in the airport by regularly opening new routes towards different cities.
So that you can better organise your next trip, we invite you to visit the Airport Tourist Information Portal aviontourism.com where you can find, in a single website, detailed information on Europe's most beautiful destinations, as well as useful facts on airports and airlines.

There are many splendid cities rich in art and culture perfect for exploring and, in Europe, you'll be spoilt for choice. This issue of Avion takes you in discovery of fascinating destinations, where you can spend your free time in friendly cities full of tourist attractions.
Travellers leaving from Milan Bergamo Airport can fly to Germany and discover the many destinations just a few hours away, such as Berlin, Bremen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Nuremberg, a destination recently served by the airport.
Beautiful Hamburg, a maritime metropolis, is enveloped in a special atmosphere that begins in the port and reaches the old town, culminating in the famous district of HafenCity, the new city centre. Instead, in Nuremburg, you feel like you've be catapulted into another era, with its medieval fortress that dominates the city panorama, surprising and massive city fortifications, richly fumished churches or fairytale fountains.
In the Czech Republic, Ostrava guards an ancient history with numerous archaeological sites and the old industrial area of Dolní oblast Vitkovice, which is on the list of sites of European Cultural Heritage. This city also offers extraordinary natural beauty such as the majestic view over the Beskydy mountains.
A new destination in France from the airport is Nice, an ideal place in the Cote D'Azur for spending a long weekend by the sea. Nice's promenade, flanked by intense blue sea, is famous throughout the world, but so is its old town, which is rich in admirable monuments and many art works housed in interesting museums.
Flying away from Europe, we look at Doha, the capital of Qatar sitting on the Persian Gulf, whose cosmopolitan character blends art, culture and traditions with a modern economy that is symbolised by its skyline of offices, hotels and skyscrapers. From Milan Bergamo Airport, Doha can be reached via Istanbul (SAW) with the Pegasus Airlines, with just one check-in.
Visitors to Lombardy can choose from many different cities that surround the renowned metropolis of Milan, and these include charming places such as Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Mantua, Monza, Pavia, Sondrio and Varese, which are filled with monuments, artistic masterpieces and magnificent vistas of lakes, rivers and mountains.
Lastly we take a look at the Ryanair's first maintenance hangar in Italy and the new Technology Centre of Excellence built at Milan Bergamo Airport, which has recently be awarded the "Gold" Quality Seal for 2016-17 for the excellent service it offers passengers.
The appointment continues on the Airport Tourist Information Portal aviontourism.com, which offers, on just one site, tourist information on the most alluring European cities, arrival and departure airports, airlines, tourism boards and useful information for organising an exciting trip in Europe.

There are many destinations connected to Milan Bergamo Airport that can be reached in just a few hours and are waiting to be discovered. With the arrival of spring and summer, we can see things in a different light and with a spring perfume in the air, which offers milder temperatures that are ideal during a holiday.
In this issue we take you on a memorable visit of the United Kingdom to enjoy a truly unique experience in some of the country's best known and fascinating cities such as Belfast, Bristol, the unmissable London, Manchester, Nottingham and the new destinations connected to the Bergamo's airport: Edimburgh and Liverpool, which are filled with monuments, tourist attractions, a great many interesting museums and much more besides.
In Edinburgh, for example, visitors can experience the atmosphere of ancient Scotland by strolling along the cobbled alleyways of the old town, which is watched over by its imposing and beautiful castle, while in Liverpool, they can relive the exciting legend of the Beatles by visiting the places were John Lennon and Paul McCartney grew up.
In France, instead, we discover Bordeaux, a new destination from Orio and a beautiful city situated in the region of Aquitaine, the growing area of the famous wine of the same name, the centre of which is embellished by the spectacular Miroir d'eau (Water mirror), a pool that reflects the entire Place de la Bourse.
Another new destination is Tel Aviv, a city filled with culture, entertainment, beaches, exotic markets, shopping centres and night life. It is a cosmopolitan, young and modern city, which reveals a real bond between tradition and modernity with its contemporary architecture and the ancient streets of the Port of laffa, which tells a 5,000 year-old story.
Yet another new destination is Dubai, the modern capital of luxury where skyscrapers stand next to traditional districts and artificial islands are packed with hotels, residences and beautiful villas. This international and welcoming city extends along the coast of the Persian Gulf, leaving the fascinating desert behind. Dubai can be reached via Istanbul (SAW) from Milan Bergamo Airport with the airline Pegasus Airlines, with just one easy check-in.
For those arriving in Lombardy, we propose a visit to Lake Como, which is amazing in spring and in summer is the perfect place for enjoying villages overlooking the water and visiting the lake's imposing, historic villas and lush, evergreen gardens.
We also take a look at the 2016 results for Milan Bergamo Airport, which, among all Italian airports, is again positioned in third place for passenger numbers and has achieved quality certifications and important acknowledgements. We close the airport column with news on the airlines which, with the arrival of summer, offer new flights to truly interesting places.
From this issue, you can find the magazine on the websites aviontourism.com and orioaeroporto.it, from where you can download a pdf file and read, on any device and whenever you like, articles on destinations of interest and discover the places to visit on your travels.

Now that summer has arrived, there are plenty of destinations for a holiday during the hottest months of the year, all easily reached from Milan Bergamo Airport in just a few hours of flying time.
Visitors to Bergamo will also find surprises in the province's many beautiful locations, which are ideal for spending holidays surrounded by nature, such as the Brembana Valley and Seriana Valley, or Lake Iseo and Lake Endine, both suitable for swimming.
Travellers leaving from Milan Bergamo Airport are truly spoilt for choice, beginning with the many Italian destinations on offer. These include some of the country's most beautiful cities in the south of the peninsula, which are washed by warm waters perfect for swimming but also filled with endless artistic, historical and cultural treasures that everyone in the world hopes to see sooner or later. Cities such as Lamezia Terme in Calabria, Bari and Brindisi in Puglia, Palermo, Trapani and Catania on the island of Sicily, and Alghero, Cagliari and Olbia on the island of Sardinia; or even wonderful Naples in Campania, which offers endless artistic treasures in its city centre and beautiful attractions in the surrounding area; treasures that can also be found on nearby islands, such as astonishing Capri, or Pompeii, with its renowned archaeological areas; but also on other smaller, equally enchanting islands, such as Pantelleria and Lampedusa, which although very different, offer unforgettable holidays among an unspoit, typically Mediterranean natural environment with spectacular views over turquoise waters and sun-kissed beaches.
Other destinations by the sea, which can be combined with an immersive journey into the local history and ancient art, include Antalya, Izmir and Bodrum in Turkey: occasions for getting to know new beaches as well as the historic heart of Turkey, rich in legend, art and culture. Antalya, Izmir and Bodrum can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport with a brief stop in Istanbul Airport (SAW) using Pegasus Airlines and continuing on with connecting flights offered by the same airline, which from Istanbul reach these beautiful destinations on the sea of Turkey in just a few hours of flight time.
A different type of holiday, but equally interesting, is offered by Ukraine, in the cities of Kiev and Chernivtsi. Both destinations can be reached using the airline Ukraine Airlines from Milan Bergamo Airport, and offer extremely interesting attractions that include monuments, museums and other notable places such as those designated World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
Lastly, we take a look at the news from the airlines operating out of Milan Bergamo Airport, with a preview of the destinations served this winter.

There are still plenty of opportunities for taking a business or leisure flight to new destinations - even if only for a few days - now that the summer holidays have ended and the new autumn-winter season has begun.
To passengers leaving from Milan Bergamo Airport we suggest visiting three fascinating cities in Bulgaria, a country that offers thousands of years of history, an artistic-cultural heritage dating back to ancient civilizations, but also unspoilt countryside. The capital Sofia, a cosmopolitan city with old town like an open-air museum, is abundant with relics of ancient civilizations, important monuments, churches, museums and verdant parks. Varna, the third largest city in Bulgaria set on the shores of the Black Sea and at the crossroads between Western Europe and the Middle East, is a cradle of ancient European civilisations and filled with artefacts and treasures of inestimable value, but is also popular for its coastline and thermal spas. Also well worth as visit is Plovdiv, one of the most beautiful ancient cities in Europe which, thousands of years ago, was the most important centre of the Roman province of Thrace. This old town extends across three hills and is filled with artistic and historical charm, which can be seen in its archeological sites and Roman monuments, but also in its characteristic churches and museums.
If you prefer spending a few days by the sea, we recommend Eilat, a lovely tourist destination in Israel where the sun shines all year round. Overlooking the shores of the Red Sea and with a tropical charm, the resort also offers various tours such as tourist cruises on the Dead Sea, underwater experiences in discovery of tropical fish and corals or camel rides in the Negev Desert.
Milan Bergamo Airport also offers opportunities for reaching long-haul destinations with a short stop, for example, at the airports of Munich (MUC), Istanbul (SAW), Kiev (KBP) or Moscow (VKO), and continuing on with connecting flights to Bangkok, Mexico City, Doha, Dubai, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Sochi, Tehran, Toronto, Washington and other fascinating international cities.
To tourists arriving in Bergamo, we suggest some pampering in the Spas of Lombardy, an opportunity to rediscover physical and psychological well-being and at the same time visit the towns that host them such as Boario, Bormio, Milan, San Pellegrino, Sirmione or Trescore.
Lastly, we summarise the latest infrastructural work taking place at Milan Bergamo Airport, which will provide extra space and additional services to passengers; we also take a look at Ryanair's connecting flights via Milan Bergamo and other news from the airlines operating out of the airport.
Before departing, you can read Avion Tourism Magazine by downloading the magazine free of charge from the international digital newsstand www.pressreader.com, from the airport tourist information portal aviontourism.com or from the airport's website orioaeroporto.it.
Once in the airport, the magazine can be found in the VIP Lounges and at the boarding gates in special display cases where, in addition to the magazine, you can find the QR code for downloading the digital version to read on any device while waiting for your flight.

During the chilly months of winter, it's lovely to plan a holiday in the warmth, choosing a destination from the many places that offer not only white sandy beaches and turquoise seas, but also interesting activities for spending free time, wonderful trips into the countryside, cultural tours of monuments and museums, and visits to amusement parks suitable for the entire family.
Travellers leaving from Milan Bergamo Airport can choose a holiday by the sea even in winter, by flying to the Canary Islands, which offer pristine nature as well as culture. Particularly beautiful, the island of Tenerife bewitches with its high Tiede Volcano, the island of Fuerteventura with its unique beaches of soft sand dunes, and the island of Lanzarote with its truly unique "lunar" landscape of craters and valleys of solidified lava.
Another enchanting travel destination is Cape Verde, which, with its many islands, is an excellent place for passing a warm holiday in the sun, even in the coldest months of this season. The island of Sal is unusual and has beaches and a blue sea ideal for diving and various water sports, as is the island of Boa Vista, which can be visited from the island of Sal.
Sharm el-Sheikh and Marsa Alam are also ideal for combining a classic sea holiday with scuba diving to see the wonderful colourful fish that live along the coral reef.
Equally fascinating are the destinations located further afield, which can be reached from Milan Bergamo Airport with the airline Pegasus Airlines after a short stop in Istanbul and then a connecting flight. These destinations include Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai, which offer extensive coastlines, natural landscapes, museums and fun in themed parks, but also local souk markets and modern shopping centres where you can indulge in a spot of shopping.
Lastly, we look at the important milestones achieved by Milan Bergamo Airport during 2017, which reached a total of 12 million passengers, gaining third position among Italian airports, and we also reveal the new flights from airlines operating out of the airport for Spring-Summer 2018.
We remind our loyal readers that Avion Tourism Magazine is free to all passengers of Milan Bergamo Airport and can be read in paper or digital format directly at the airport or downloaded at any moment from Press Reader, the international digital newsstand that instantaneously translates the content into 18 languages, on aviontourism.com, the airport tounst information portal, or the airport's website milanbergamoairport.it. The digital edition can be read on any device and is ideal for getting information before leaving on a trip or for entertainment at the airport, while waiting for a flight.
