Wizz Air grows in Italy
Wizz Air announces an important phase of growth in Italy with a structured expansion plan that will affect numerous domestic airports between spring and summer 2026. The transaction consolidates Italy's role as a key market for the airline, strengthening the country's connectivity to Europe and the Mediterranean thanks to new routes, more frequencies and particularly competitive fares.
Rome Fiumicino at the center of the strategy
The hub of the expansion is Rome Fiumicino Airport, which is confirmed as Wizz Air's main base in Italy. With the arrival of a new Airbus A321neo, the fleet based at the airport rises to 15 aircraft. Nine new routes will depart from Rome, with daily and seasonal connections to Malta, several Mediterranean islands - including Rhodes, Kefalonia, Crete, Chania and Menorca - and new destinations in Central and Eastern Europe such as Tallinn, Varna, Constanta and Pristina. An expansion that strengthens Fiumicino's role as a strategic hub between the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe.
Northern Italy: new travel opportunities
Northern Italy also benefits from a significant expansion of the network. From Milan Malpensa Airport, the daily connection with Palma de Mallorca debuts, while the offer to Tel Aviv is strengthened, with a doubling of frequencies in the 2026 summer season.
The new flight to London Luton arrives at Turin Caselle Airport, which expands Piedmont's international connections. There is also news for Venice Marco Polo Airport, which from 31 March 2026 will be connected to Krakow, and for Pisa Airport, from which direct flights to Belgrade will depart, strengthening connections with South-Eastern Europe.
South and islands increasingly central
Wizz Air's strategy also focuses decisively on the South and the islands. From Alghero the connection with Tirana debuts, creating a new bridge between Sardinia and Albania. From Lamezia Terme, on the other hand, the route to Warsaw will be activated, which is added to a rapidly growing network at the Calabrian airport, already affected by new connections to Central and Eastern Europe.
Modern fleet and affordable fares
All new routes will be operated with Airbus A321neo, state-of-the-art aircraft designed to ensure greater operational efficiency, on-board comfort and reduced fuel consumption. Fares start at €19.99, confirming the company's approach to making air travel increasingly accessible.
A direct impact on tourism and mobility
Wizz Air strengthens Italy's connectivity with Europe, expanding travel opportunities for both leisure tourism and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) flows. The increase in routes and frequencies also contributes to enhancing regional airports and territories, supporting mobility and tourist attractiveness of the country in view of the 2026 season.
