The passenger terminal, inaugurated in 1981 and based on a 1960s project, has undergone restoration work over the years that has resulted in a new terminal on two levels (arrivals and departures), additional boarding piers and gates, as well as a new 30-metre control tower. In 2007 the airport of Catania was named after Vincenzo Bellini.
