United Airlines opens Catania-New York Newark flight
United Airlines will directly connect Catania Fontanarossa Airport with Newark-Liberty Airport EWR from May 28, 2027, with four weekly flights operated with Boeing 767-300ER. The new route is part of the largest international expansion ever announced by the U.S. company and will add a new nonstop travel option between eastern Sicily and the United States.
Four flights a week between Catania and Newark
The new Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)-Catania Fontanarossa (CTA) connection will be operated four times a week with Boeing 767-300ER. For Sicilian passengers, the main novelty will be the possibility of directly reaching Newark, one of United Airlines' major hubs and one of the reference airports for the New York metropolitan area.
The connection will also allow you to continue your journey through the United Airlines network to numerous destinations in the United States and the Americas, thus expanding the itinerary possibilities not only for those who have New York as their final destination.
From Catania the offer of direct flights to New York grows
United's arrival will not represent the first direct connection between Catania and New York. Delta Air Lines operates the connection between Catania and New York JFK, introduced in 2025 and confirmed in the subsequent schedule.
The novelty of 2027 will therefore be above all the entry of a second US carrier on the direct market between eastern Sicily and the New York area and the possibility for passengers to choose between two different New York airports: JFK and Newark.
