Founded in 1926 when it operated as an airmail carrier in the Midwest, American Airlines is now one of the world's largest airlines by passengers carried. The premium global airline connects the United States to the rest of the world.

American Airlines has several hubs, including those in the cities of Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington.
 
American operates more than 6,000 flights a day to more than 350 destinations in more than 60 countries, carrying more than 200 million passengers annually.

In 2026, it celebrated its centenary, an anniversary that reflects a century of innovation. American introduced the first scheduled air cargo service, the first airport lounge and the first airline loyalty program, while still continuing to reinvent the passenger experience. 
 
The airline is also a founding member of the Oneworld alliance, whose members serve more than 900 destinations worldwide. American Airlines is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas.
