American renews Airbus A319 and A320

American Airlines is introducing the first refurbished Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft this summer, with updated cabins, more premium seats and more passenger amenities. The interior has been redesigned with finishes similar to those of the newly delivered Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR, to provide a more consistent experience on board the fleet.

The new features concern both the premium cabins and the Main Cabin. Passengers will find larger overhead bins for carry-on luggage, USB-C sockets at each seat, improved ambient lighting and new trim details. The premium seats have been redesigned with side flaps for more privacy, additional storage spaces for personal items and two beverage trays.

With the modernization, the Airbus A319s will have 12 premium seats, while the Airbus A320s will reach 16 premium seats. The intervention improves the travel experience on domestic and international short-haul flights.

American Airlines also introduced free Wi-Fi, sponsored by AT&T, on narrow-body aircraft for AAdvantage members. The refurbished A319s and A320s will also be equipped with Starlink service from 2027.

On board, the airline has enhanced premium menus with chef-created offerings and a more curated beverage service, while new snack and meal options are available in the Main Cabin , including a fruit and cheese platter, a roast turkey sandwich and a special selection of "Inflight Bites".

The investment in the A319 and A320 goes hand in hand with the arrival of the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR with premium configuration and Flagship Suite, as well as the renewal of the Boeing 777-300ER and 777-200ER. By the end of the decade, American Airlines plans to increase lie-flat seats on international flights by more than 50 percent.
