The "Mario Mameli" Cagliari Airport is the main airport in Sardinia located in the municipality of Elmas, just 7 km from the city of Cagliari, near other regional centers connected by the road and transport links that make the airport easily accessible from all parts of Sardinia.
 
The 'Mario Mameli' Cagliari-Elmas Airport is the most important airport in Sardinia both in terms of traffic volumes and size. In 2019 passenger traffic amounted to 4,739,077 units, while aircraft traffic reached 34,921 movements. Cagliari is currently connected with direct scheduled flights to the main European and Italian destinations. The airport operates a large network of national and international flights by the main European airlines.

Equipped with a modern air terminal inaugurated in 2003, the airport is characterized by spacious and functional structures that can comfortably accommodate millions of passengers a year. Cagliari airport is on three levels, the first for national and international arrivals, the second with check-in desks is dedicated to departures, while the third houses services and offices.
 
After obtaining total management of the Cagliari airport for 40 years in 2007, the management company Sogaer received ENAC approval for the program contract in 2012. Since 2016, Sogaer has participated in the 'Airport Carbon Accreditation', an independent and voluntary program that aims at the progressive reduction of CO2 emissions in the airport.

Transportation to/from the airport
Train
From the Elmas Airport Station (Trenitalia), near the Passenger Terminal, is possible to reach the city of Cagliari in about 6 minutes. Frequency of trains: about 1 train every 20 minutes from 5 am to 9 pm.

Bus
Cagliari airport is connected to Cagliari and the main cities of the region thanks to the bus service (Arst - Regional Transport of Sardinia). From Piazza Matteotti in Cagliari is available a shuttle bus service that, in 10 minutes, reaches the airport.
 
Car
  • From Cagliari and hinterland: take the S.S.130 from Cagliari or the S.S. 554 from other parts of the city and from its hinterland. You can reach the S.S. 554 also with the Asse Mediano di Scorrimento (A.M.S.)
  • From SassariNuoroOristano: you can reach Cagliari Airport by the S.S.131 southbound towards Cagliari. Follow the ‘Aeroporto Elmas’ signs on the S.S.130
  • From Olbia: follow the S.S.131bis southbound towards Cagliari until the S.S.131 then driving south towards Cagliari and then in the S.S.130 to ‘Aeroporto Elmas’. Or driving on the S.S.125 southbound towards Cagliari and, near Quartucciu, turn on the S.S.554 linking to the S.S.130,and then follow the ‘Aeroporto Elmas’ signs.
  • From the South-Western Coastal road of Sardinia: drive on the S.S.195 towards Cagliari, then turn onto the S.S.130 and follow the ‘Aeroporto Elmas’ signs.
  • From the South-Eastern Coastal road of Sardinia: take the S.P. 17 that connects Villasimius to Cagliari; turn on the S.S.554 and then onto the S.S.130 following the ‘Aeroporto Elmas’ signs.
 
Taxi
You can reach the airport from the city of Cagliari and from the hinterland (and vice versa) by taxi. Taxis are located outside the arrivals area of the terminal. A day trip to Cagliari by taxi costs from 15 to 20 euros.
