Summer 2026: Torino Airport expands its network and consolidates its growth
Torino Airport is preparing to face Summer 2026 with the widest network ever, confirming a phase of growth that concerns not only the number of connections, but also the competitive positioning of the airport in the North-West panorama. New routes, more frequencies, more seats available and the entry of new carriers strengthen the offer of the Turin airport, increasingly oriented towards combining international development, quality of services and fluidity of the airport experience. In this interview, Paolo Papale, Aviation Development Director of Torino Airport, talks about the news of the 2026 summer season, the markets that are driving the network, the investments to manage the increase in flows and the strategies put in place to make travel more efficient, comfortable and attractive for passengers.
During Summer 2026, how many countries, destinations and airlines will Torino Airport's offer be able to count on?
"In Summer 2026, Torino Airport's offer is spread over 24 countries and 53 destinations, with a network that is further growing compared to Summer 2025. A total of 23 airlines will operate, confirming an increasingly international and attractive airport for carriers. In terms of capacity, we are also talking about a record season for available seats: about 700 thousand additional seats have been put on sale on the market compared to summer 2025".
What are the main news of Summer 2026 from Turin Airport, including new routes, new connections and operational strengthening?
"The novelties of Summer 2026 are numerous and concern both new routes and a structural strengthening of the operation on already established destinations. The most important signal is the entry of Finnair, the new airline to Turin, with a direct flight to Helsinki (from 3 May): a connection that opens up new opportunities to Northern Europe and, thanks to the Finnish hub, also to Asia and North America via connections. On the low-cost front, Ryanair further expands the network with new connections to Sofia and Tirana and, thanks to the third aircraft based (from November 2025), enhances several high-demand routes. Wizz Air also grows significantly, introducing London (Luton Airport) in summer (for the first time in the summer season) and the new route to Palermo, as well as continuing Budapest and Chisinau from the winter season. Finally, Aeroitalia will serve Foggia and Salerno and will also introduce the new route to Comiso".
Which destinations will see the most significant increases in frequency or capacity during the summer season?
"The leap in scale of Summer 2026 is clearly visible both in terms of frequencies and seats: overall, the schedule grows by about +16% in average weekly frequencies compared to Summer 2025, while the seat offer (arrivals + departures, scheduled flights) increases by more than +20% (about +692 thousand seats). The most evident reinforcements concern above all low-cost carriers: Wizz Air records a very marked increase in capacity and frequencies, driven by Tirana and the new London Luton and Palermo".
"Ryanair is also growing significantly, with increases on several domestic and international routes with high tourism potential, as well as the launch of new connections to Sofia and Tirana. Among the markets showing significant growth in capacity are, for example, Tirana and some leisure/"city & sun" destinations such as Catania, Palermo, Malaga, Marrakech, Malta and Madrid, in line with the strong outgoing demand and the increase in incoming".
How are you organizing yourself to better manage the increase in passenger flows, especially in the busiest periods, also in terms of controls, routes and usability of airport services?
"The increase in flows is managed with a mix of operational planning, infrastructure investments and technologies. In 2025 we have carried out and launched targeted interventions precisely to accompany growth, with 11.1 million euros of investments by the Group: these include the activation of two new gates (6A and 6B), the expansion of the passport control area with new ABC stations, and the continuation of the restyling of the terminal and commercial areas. In terms of controls and routes, we are working on punctual peak planning (in coordination with the airport community and state bodies), on the monitoring of waiting times and on the progressive strengthening of self-service systems. The goal is to make the "passenger journey" smoother at times of greater turnout, without sacrificing high standards of safety and security".
Which markets are supporting the development of the Turin Airport network the most and, after exceeding 5 million passengers, how has the airport's competitive positioning with respect to airlines changed today?
"The development of the network is supported most by both the markets that are traditionally strong for Turin and those that are accelerating thanks to the expansion of the low-cost product and new connections. In 2025, the foreign markets with the highest volumes were Spain (over 526 thousand passengers, about 20% of the international market), the United Kingdom (over 483 thousand, 19%) and Germany (over 288 thousand, 11%). This mix of city-break, leisure tourism and business traffic makes the airport particularly interesting for airlines. The surpassing of 5 million passengers in 2025 (an all-time record) represents a real "change of pace": for carriers it means being able to count on a larger catchment area and more stable demand throughout the year, with the possibility of growing not only in destinations, but also in frequencies, operating days and schedules. With this in mind, the arrival of Finnair and the further consolidation of Ryanair and Wizz Air strengthen the competitive positioning of Torino Airport as a reference airport in the North-West, capable of offering international connectivity and competitive prices".
What is Turin Airport's catchment area today and what are the main passenger profiles who choose to fly from the airport?
"The reference basin of Torino Airport is that of the North-West, with a strong integration between regional demand and incoming tourist flows. In recent years, the passenger profile has evolved: alongside the historical North-South business and domestic components, the international tourist who chooses Turin and Piedmont for city breaks, culture, food and wine and outdoor activities has grown significantly, in addition to the snow segment that brings flows from Northern Europe to the area. In 2025, the international component accounted for about 52% of total traffic (growing), a sign of an increasingly international vocation of the airport. This diversification of profiles is a strength because it makes demand more balanced and more resilient throughout the seasons".
Torino Airport has received the ACI World "Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff in Europe" award for the third consecutive year. How important is the contribution of people today in the growth of the airport and how does this approach concretely translate into the quality of the experience for passengers?
"The ACI World "Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff in Europe" award, obtained for the third consecutive year, is particularly significant because it stems from the opinions expressed directly by passengers at the various touchpoints of the trip (information, check-in, security, passport control, shops, bars and restaurants). In a growth phase like the one we are experiencing, people make the difference: they are the ones who transform the increase in volumes into an orderly, welcoming and efficient experience. This approach translates into continuous training, attention to service standards and collaboration between all the realities of the airport community. The results confirm this: in 2025 the Overall Satisfaction ASQ stood at 4.00 (on a scale of 1-5), and PRM satisfaction reached levels of excellence (minimum value 99.3%)".
In addition to the development of the network, which services dedicated to passengers are you focusing on most to make the airport experience more comfortable and qualified?
"We are focusing on services that concretely improve comfort, time and quality of stay in the terminal. In 2025 we have expanded and redeveloped spaces and paths in the boarding hall, enhancing the commercial and catering offer and preparing new developments. "Premium" services that respond to increasingly widespread needs are also growing: Piemonte Lounge and Fast Track are in strong development, with a significant increase in revenues related to these services. On the accessibility front, we continue with initiatives and partnerships to make the airport increasingly usable and inclusive, with very high service standards for passengers with reduced mobility. Finally, the focus on intermodality and the "ground transportation experience" remains strategic: an airport that is well connected to the city and the territory is also a qualifying element for the development of the network".
How are new technologies and digital services helping to make Torino Airport more efficient and concretely simplify the passenger experience?
"Digital technologies are a key lever for both operational efficiency and simplifying the passenger experience. In 2025 , ALI, the virtual assistant based on generative artificial intelligence, available on the website and on WhatsApp, went into operation to provide quick and personalized information. We have also enhanced digital wayfinding and information monitors (FIDS), doubled the charging stations for devices and updated the Torino Airport App to allow passengers to independently manage services such as parking, Fast Track and lounges".
If you had to indicate three good reasons for choosing to depart from Turin Airport, which ones would you highlight?
"First: growing connectivity, with the largest Summer 2026 ever: 53 destinations in 24 countries, new routes and more frequencies, as well as 700 thousand additional seats on the network. Second: a quality travel experience, internationally recognized: for the third consecutive year we are "Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff in Europe", with high levels of satisfaction and continuously improving services. Third: an airport that invests in infrastructure, innovation and sustainability: from the restyling of the terminal to digital technologies, up to the Torino Green Airport route, which combines growth and attention to environmental impacts".
