Iberia makes travelling with pets easy
Iberia responds to the growing demand for pet-friendly travel, offering a more transparent and digital process for those who want to fly in Europe and on international routes with their pet. Iberia introduces a novelty designed for those traveling with pets: from now on it is possible to add the animal in the cabin directly during the online booking, without contacting the call center or paying at the airport on the day of departure. The new feature allows you to check the availability of places dedicated to animals in real time and to manage the request independently, reducing unforeseen events and waits.
How to add your pet to your flight booking
The feature is available for flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum.
In the search engine of the Iberia website there is the new "animal in the cabin" selector. If enabled:
- you can add one or more animals to your flight ticket booking,
- the cost is integrated into the ticket price,
- the purchase must be made at least 48 hours before departure,
- Avios points can also be earned for this service.
Some destinations do not allow animals to be transported in the cabin on board the aircraft. For example, Doha Airport (DOH) does not allow animals to board, and in these cases, the route will not appear as an option with the selection enabled.
There are also restrictions at some Spanish airports for the entry of animals from non-EU countries.
Rules for transporting animals in the cabin
The conditions remain unchanged:
- only one kennel per passenger,
- maximum dimensions: 45 x 35 x 25 cm,
- total weight (animal + carrier) not exceeding 8 kg,
- up to three animals of the same species (dogs, cats, birds or turtles) in the same carrier.
The airline automatically assigns the most suitable seat to the passenger travelling with an animal.
Documentation and controls
Iberia reminds you that before travelling, it is essential to check that all the animal's health and travel documentation is in order. The documents will still be checked at the check-in counter before boarding.
