Aeroporti di Roma joins "M'illumino di meno"

For the National Energy Saving Day: reduced lighting for the Fountain of Terminal 3 and the "Piazza" of Terminal 1 of Fiumicino, as well as for the sign of the G.B. Pastine of Ciampino

Also in 2026 Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), a Mundys Group company that manages the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino, confirms its participation in "M'illumino di Meno", the campaign promoted by Rai Radio 2 and the historic Caterpillar program on the occasion of the National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles.

The 2026 edition, entitled "M'illumino di Meno. M'illumino di Scienza", focuses on the contribution of scientific research to the energy transition and the fight against climate change, enhancing the role of universities, research institutions and the scientific community in the development of innovative and sustainable solutions.

To raise awareness among passengers and airport operators on the conscious use of energy, ADR has planned a partial and temporary reduction of lighting in some symbolic points of the Roman airports: the Fountain of Terminal 3 and the "Piazza" area of Terminal 1 in Fiumicino, as well as the sign of the G.B. Pastine in Ciampino. The initiative, which lasts a few minutes, does not affect safety or operations in any way: in fact, all the systems essential for the management of flows, passenger information and safety devices remain fully active and illuminated, ensuring continuity and full usability of the spaces.

Joining "M'illumino di Meno" is part of the broader sustainability path undertaken by ADR, which aims to achieve Net Zero by 2030 through targeted investments in energy efficiency, the use of renewable sources and the progressive decarbonization of airport activities.

In this context, the Solar Farm of Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino, the largest airport photovoltaic system for self-consumption in Europe, is placed. Inaugurated in January 2025, in its first year of operation it produced over 30,000 MWh of clean energy, covering about 20% of the airport's total electricity needs and avoiding 14,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to about 192,000 Rome–Milan trips made by diesel car.

A concrete commitment that strengthens the positioning of Rome's airports as strategic infrastructures for increasingly sustainable mobility, in line with national and European environmental development objectives.
