The new Pet Area opens at Cagliari airport
Cagliari-Elmas Airport takes a significant step towards an airport model that is increasingly attentive to the needs of passengers and their pets. The new Pet Area has been inaugurated, a 300-square-meter space located on the Arrivals floor, between the bar and the Schengen exits, entirely dedicated to dogs, cats and their companions.
The official opening took place in the presence of the president of ENAC Pierluigi Di Palma, the president of the IX Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies Salvatore Deidda, the top management of SOGAER and representatives of institutions and airport authorities.
A state-of-the-art airport for pet-friendly hospitality
With this project, Cagliari Airport is among the first in Italy and as the only one in Sardinia to equip itself with equipped spaces and qualified personnel to accommodate pets departing, arriving or simply visiting the airport. The initiative responds to the constant growth of passengers who choose to travel with their four-legged friends and aims to reduce the stress related to the waiting and transit phases.
Services dedicated to the well-being of dogs and cats
The Pet Area is designed as a safe and functional environment, equipped with areas for play and relaxation, drinking and cooling fountains, spaces dedicated to physiological needs and a professional grooming service. The concept also includes a real "airport kindergarten", where animals can move freely, away from the confusion typical of transit spaces.
The management of the Pet Area and services is entrusted to Bau Club ETS, an association that has been active for years in the protection and welfare of animals.
Particular attention is paid to PRMs - passengers with reduced mobility: their pets can access and stay in the Pet Area free of charge, in line with the inclusion and accessibility strategy pursued by the airport operator.
A project that combines mobility, inclusion and social responsibility
In addition to the services dedicated to Travellers, the Pet Area of Cagliari airport also has a strong social value. The purchase of gadgets, basic necessities and services helps to support non-profit activities related to the protection of animals, the fight against stray animals and the promotion of adoptions.
The goal is to make the Pet Area a place of meeting and awareness, capable of fostering new relationships between animals and potential families, within a welcoming and easily accessible space.

Managed by SOGAER since 1992, Cagliari-Elmas airport is the main airport in Sardinia in terms of traffic volumes and size. With over five million passengers per year and direct connections to the main national and European destinations, the airport represents a strategic hub for the island's mobility.
