Volotea achieves 2030 emissions reduction target
Volotea, the carrier that connects small and medium-sized European destinations, has reached its 2030 sustainability goal well in advance: to reduce direct CO₂ emissions per passenger-kilometer by 50% compared to 2012 levels. The result was certified by EQA, an international body specializing in the validation of management and sustainability systems, which attested to an effective reduction of 51% as early as the end of 2024.
A goal that the company has been able to achieve six years ahead of schedule thanks to more than 50 initiatives launched since 2012, aimed at progressively reducing fuel consumption and developing a more responsible and environmentally friendly operating model.
In addition, the company works with several suppliers, including Moeve, Repsol, TotalEnergies and Enilive, to promote the development of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel). Since 2022, it has consumed more than 2.4 million liters of this sustainable fuel.
On the strength of this official certification, Volotea has announced a new, even more ambitious goal: to reach -55% of direct emissions by 2030, confirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing the impact of air transport in Europe.
Gloria Carreras, Volotea's ESG Director, said: "This result stimulates us to do better and better, with new realistic but challenging targets, such as the ones we have just presented, to continue reducing our carbon emissions and moving forward, together with the industry, towards more sustainable aviation".
