New Terminal at Verona Airport
The Romeo Project, the main intervention envisaged by the Development Plan of Verona Valerio Catullo Airport, led by the SAVE Group, has been completed. A strategic work that has redesigned the passenger terminal, accompanying the growth of the airport towards a new infrastructural dimension.
Started on 28 July 2021 with the laying of the first stone, the project was completed on 24 February 2026, after 55 months of work carried out in full compliance with the schedule and without any interruption to airport operations, despite constantly increasing traffic. In 2025, the airport reached an all-time record of 4 million passengers, consolidating its role as a gateway to Verona, Veneto and Lake Garda and the main leisure and business destinations.
Largest and most functional terminal
The intervention significantly affected the departures area, expanded from 24,840 to 36,370 square meters, with the renovation of over 10,000 square meters of existing spaces and a total investment of more than 90 million euros.
For passengers, the changes translate into:
- redeveloped check-in hall with an increase in the number of check-in desks from 40 to 46, for smoother management of flows;
- new boarding lounges on the first floor and increase in gates from 13 to 19, with 3 new towers connected by glass and steel piers;
- state-of-the-art baggage handling system (BHS), approximately 975 meters long, equipped with Standard 3 EDS equipment;
- new safety controls with 7 latest generation tomographic machines , for faster and more efficient procedures.
Overall, the project generated 11,000 square meters of new areas open to the public, 2,450 square meters of commercial spaces, 4,100 square meters of technical and service rooms, 3,500 square meters of warehouses and 3,550 square meters of glass facades, contributing to an architectural and functional renovation of the terminal.
Sustainability and energy efficiency
The Romeo Project was developed according to criteria of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Among the main solutions adopted:
- installation of 200 anti-glare photovoltaic modules on the roof;
- automated LED lighting systems for reducing consumption;
- use of materials with recycled and recyclable components;
- energy savings estimated at over 1.2 million kWh per year.
An approach that reinforces the Verona airport's commitment to a more responsible management oriented towards reducing environmental impact.
New shopping gallery and lounge
The Verona airport project also includes the new Shopping Mall, with a food & beverage and retail offer that integrates international brands and local excellence, enriching the pre-flight experience.
In addition, a new airside lounge was inaugurated on the ground floor, spread over about 600 square meters, designed as a space dedicated to waiting, relaxing and working before boarding.
