NextBG, from the plane to the e-bike to discover Bergamo and its surroundings

Milan Bergamo Airport's new premium service offers guided tours, tailor-made experiences and sustainable routes between the Upper Town, Moscato di Scanzo and Malpaga Castle

Arrive at the airport and start discovering the area immediately, without wasting time on transfers and with the freedom to move around in a sustainable way. This is the idea behind NextBG - The New Way to Explore Bergamo, the new premium e-bike rental service activated at Milan Bergamo Airport, presented as the first service of its kind within an Italian airport.

The project is the result of the collaboration between DIF S.p.A. and SACBO, the management company of Milan Bergamo Airport, with the support of the technical partners Würth and Bergamont. The goal is to offer Travellers arriving at Bergamo airport a new, authentic and low environmental impact experience, capable of transforming the airport not only into a gateway to the territory, but also into a starting point to experience Bergamo and its surroundings in an active way.

The e-bike rental location is located directly at the airport, a location that allows tourists to go from the seat of the plane to the saddle of an electric bicycle in a few minutes. There are over 25 latest generation Bergamont e-bikes available, including premium e-MTB models, designed for different travel needs and levels of experience.

The added value of NextBG, however, is not only the rental of the vehicle, but the cycling tourism proposal built around the territory. Among the itineraries already available are guided tours to the Upper Town, with a proposal of about four hours and the possibility of choosing a half-day variant with typical Bergamo lunch; paths through the Moscato di Scanzo vineyards; and itineraries up to the Castle of Malpaga, also with guided tours, tastings and moments dedicated to the discovery of local food and wine.

For those looking for an even more personalized experience, NextBG also offers tailor-made routes for families, couples and individual travellers. A formula that intercepts a tourist demand increasingly oriented towards flexible, sustainable experiences linked to the identity of places, where travel is not just a journey, but an encounter with landscapes, villages, flavors and traditions.

The initiative is part of a broader path already launched by SACBO on the sustainable mobility front. Milan Bergamo Airport is in fact indicated as the first European airport recognized as bike friendly and obtained the Cycle Friendly Employer Certification in 2021, reaching the Gold level for sustainable mobility in 2024.

To support travellers who choose bicycles, dedicated services have also been set up inside the terminal. These include a path for passengers traveling with their own bikes and a Bike Room equipped for assembly and maintenance, created with the technical contribution of Würth. From the terminal it is also possible to access the cycle path that runs along the airport perimeter and connects the airport to the city of Bergamo and the main cycle routes, including the Bergamo-Brescia Cycle Route, the Musica nel Vento Cycle Route, the AIDA Cycle Route and the Sun Cycle Route.

NextBG thus strengthens the role of Milan Bergamo Airport as a hub that is increasingly integrated with the territory and with new forms of mobility. In this vision, the airport is not only an arrival and departure infrastructure, but becomes an active part of the travel experience, capable of connecting planes, bicycles, future rail connections and local tourist itineraries.
