Milan Bergamo closes 2025 with almost 17 million passengers
2025 closes with an important result for Milan Bergamo Airport, which is close to 17 million passengers and consolidates its role in the Italian and European airport landscape. In fact, the airport recorded 16,937,976 passengers, a figure higher than budget forecasts, confirming itself steadily in third place in Italy after Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa and reaching 41st position in the ranking published by ACI Europe.
But beyond traffic, the data that most interests passengers concerns the development path carried out during the year. In fact, 2025 stood out for the importance of infrastructure and technological programs to support airport services. Compliance with the work schedule made it possible to make the expansion of the check-in lounges available as early as May and to open the new departures area at the end of November, which doubled its overall surface area. At the same time, the security controls, equipped with the latest generation of X-ray equipment, have also been relocated and strengthened.
These are interventions that directly affect the airport experience, because they aim to make the passages in the terminal smoother, to increase the capacity of the airport and to support high operational standards in a phase of growth in traffic
The expansions carried out in the departures terminal have brought immediate benefits to both passengers and operators, strengthening efficiency and safety.
Alongside the development of infrastructure, SACBO has also carried out an investment plan aimed at the sustainability of the airport, making available about 10 million euros. The interventions indicated include mitigation and compensation works, actions to improve accessibility and intermodality, the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles in the airside area, the introduction of new electric vehicles for handling activities and further works for the energy efficiency of infrastructure. The photovoltaic system, which produces over 10% of the airport's electricity needs, while 60% of the energy needed comes from renewable supplies, has also become fully operational.
The airport's growth path also includes the investment of 2.8 million euros intended for digital transformation, indicated in the document as a fundamental element for the development of the airport. An aspect that further strengthens the modernization process of the Bergamo airport, in a phase in which the goal is not only to accompany the increase in flows, but also to improve the overall quality of the services offered to Travellers.
Overall, the 2025 financial statements, approved by the Sacbo Board of Directors, therefore return the image of an evolving airport, which is growing in numbers but above all in space, technology and service organization, with interventions designed to make the travel experience to and from Milan Bergamo Airport more efficient, safe and modern.
