The new area includes 30 check-in stations, including:

  • 22 self drop bags for self-registration

    of checked baggage,

  • 8 traditional desks.

These are in addition to the 34 already existing

(28 traditional + 6 self drops), bringing the grand total

64 check-in stations.

The check-in counters are surmounted by 2 high-resolution LED monitors, which show departure times and gates with better visibility in real time, with an energy saving of 30%

compared to older backlit LCD systems.

To improve flow management, the entire area is equipped with stereoscopic sensors that monitor waiting times at check-in counters in real time.

The inauguration of BGY's new check-in area was matched by the expansion of the baggage handling system (BHS) in the airside area with the addition of 3,720 square meters on the ground floor.

In the external area, on the other hand, the access road to the terminal has been redeveloped, both for vehicles and pedestrians, through the widening and lengthening of the sidewalk in the departures area.

For the expansion works of the eastern section of the passenger terminal, which will be completed in December 2025, SACBO has invested 41 million euros based on the auction of its own financial resources.

The project is aimed at improving the capacity and quality of services at the Milan Bergamo Airport terminal in view of the airport's future growth.

And he added that "the new spaces have been designed to accommodate the technological evolution and digital transformation of acceptance procedures. This makes it possible to speed up operations, ensuring safety and precision, while new security checks are being prepared on the upper floor which, within six months, will mark the further leap in quality of our airport, consolidating its level of passenger appreciation and its role in the international air transport scene".
