Milan Bergamo Airport inaugurates the new departures terminal
The new departures terminal was inaugurated at Milan Bergamo Airport on Tuesday 25 November, concluding the package of expansion works started on 15 March 2024.
The intervention, carried out by SACBO with a total investment of 55 million euros (41 million for infrastructure works and 14 million for the purchase of the latest generation X-ray machines), is part of the program of works planned by the SACBO Group starting from 2020, for a total value of approximately 300 million euros.
The inaugural ceremony was opened by the president of SACBO Giovanni Sanga. Together with the civil, military and religious public authorities, the president of ENAC, Pierluigi Di Palma, and the president of Assaeroporti, Carlo Borgomeo, also participated.
New security controls: more space and advanced technologies
The new area, located on the first floor of the airport and developed on 7,500 square meters, houses 14 lines dedicated to security checks, equipped with advanced technological solutions. These systems allow you to leave the contents in your hand luggage, including liquids up to 2 liters per container and electronic devices. The first seat is reserved for passengers with reduced mobility, families with small children and fast-track. Access to the control area is organized through 9 gates for reading the boarding pass.
Enhanced check-in and baggage: more seats and doubled BHS
The new departures terminal also includes the 4,300 sqm ground floor area, with the expansion of the check-in hall. 30 new self-check-in stations have been added, bringing the total to 64, and the spaces reserved for the BHS system for baggage handling have been doubled.
Extra-Schengen: expanded area and new gates
The programme of infrastructural interventions has also made it possible to expand the non-Schengen departures area by 840, with the addition of 2 new boarding gates.
Real-time flow monitoring and new duty-free
Among the technological innovations introduced in the new areas there is also an attendance detection system based on artificial intelligence, designed to monitor passenger flows in real time.
On the upper floor of the terminal there is the new duty-free shop, entrusted to the management of Avolta, a leading company in the travel retail and food & beverage sector, which consolidates the commercial offer already present and expands the range of services available to passengers at Milan Bergamo Airport.
