Wizz Air launches new Rome-Kosice route
Wizz Air continues to strengthen its role in the European aviation landscape and announces a novelty that further enriches the offer from Rome Fiumicino airport: from 31 March 2026, the company will connect Rome to Košice, the cultural and historical heart of eastern Slovakia. A new route that consolidates Fiumicino as Wizz Air's main base in Italy and expands travel opportunities to a destination that is still little explored but full of charm.
A new flight to discover eastern Slovakia
The Rome-Košice connection will be operated twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The service will be guaranteed by Airbus A321neo aircraft, the spearhead of the Wizz Air fleet, characterized by reduced consumption, lower environmental impact and greater on-board comfort.
Košice, Slovakia's second largest city by population, is a surprising jewel: a perfectly preserved medieval center, a lively cultural scene and an authentic atmosphere that distinguishes it from the most popular destinations in Central Europe.
The city is also a strategic point for exploring the natural landscapes of the eastern Slovak region, including parks, castles and ancient villages on the border with Poland and Hungary.
Rome Fiumicino increasingly central in the Wizz Air network
The new route comes at a time of strong growth for Wizz Air's base in Rome. With 61 destinations in 26 countries, over 570 employees and a constantly improving operating performance, Fiumicino today represents the hub of the company's Italian operations. In 2025, Wizz Air operated more than 29,000 flights to and from Rome, carrying 6.2 million passengers (+4.6% compared to the previous year) with a 99.8% completion rate. A result that confirms the solidity of the carrier in the Italian market, today its largest in terms of number of passengers transported.
Recently, the company has also introduced the 14th aircraft at the Roman base and increased frequencies to particularly popular routes such as London, Malaga, Sharm El-Sheikh and Valencia.
Growth that supports tourism and the local economy
According to Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air, the opening of the Rome-Košice route represents "a new step in the expansion strategy in Italy and an opportunity that will be appreciated by both business travellers and tourists". The company will continue to invest in its main Italian base to ensure more choices, more connections and always competitive rates.
A company in full expansion
Today, Wizz Air operates a total of over 240 routes in Italy and has a fleet of 250 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. In 2025, it carried 19.4 million passengers, marking an increase of 8% compared to the previous year and also exceeding important milestones in terms of environmental sustainability.
