Volotea and ITA Airways together for territorial continuity in Sardinia
Volotea takes a new strategic step in the Italian market by announcing a partnership with ITA Airways to jointly participate in the territorial continuity tenders in Sardinia, on the Cagliari–Rome (Fiumicino) and Olbia–Milan (Linate) routes. The goal is to ensure regular, reliable and accessible air connections to Sardinian citizens, responding to the island's mobility needs throughout the year
The two companies have expressed their commitment to set up a Temporary Grouping of Companies (RTI) in the event of the award of one or both routes, combining operational skills and complementary networks.
An integrated offer for efficient and high-quality connections
The proposal stems from the common desire to strengthen connectivity between Sardinia and the Peninsula, ensuring air services designed for residents and travellers who travel for work, health, study and tourism. The collaboration enhances Volotea's experience in the management of routes in territorial continuity and the capillarity of ITA Airways' network from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate airports.
In the event of award, passengers will be able to benefit from functional timetables, continuity of service even in low season and affordable fares, central elements to support the economic and tourist development of the island.
Interline agreement and new travel opportunities
The project is part of a broader context, already strengthened by an operational bilateral interline agreement, which allows Volotea and ITA Airways to offer an even more extensive combined network. Thanks to the Rome Fiumicino hub, passengers will be able to access 118 new connection opportunities, with a single booking and direct transfer of luggage to the final destination. A significant advantage for both Sardinian residents and incoming tourist flows, which reinforces Rome's role as a strategic hub for national and international mobility.
Volotea: growth, sustainability and attention to the territories
The partnership confirms Volotea's strong roots in Sardinia, one of the key markets for the company. With more than 80 million passengers transported since its foundation, Volotea continues to invest in the connectivity of territories, promoting sustainable development of air transport
The company's commitment is also reflected on the environmental front, with a 51% reduction in CO₂ emissions per passenger-kilometre compared to 2012 and new sustainability targets for 2030, elements that are increasingly central to the strategic choices of the aviation sector.
A strategic partnership for the island's mobility
The alliance between Volotea and ITA Airways represents a model of cooperation between complementary carriers, designed to offer Sardinian citizens an efficient, reliable service that meets contemporary mobility needs.
A project that looks not only at territorial continuity, but also at strengthening tourism, accessibility and competitiveness of Sardinia, confirming the role of air transport as a strategic infrastructure for the development of the island.
