Ryanair strengthens its presence in Calabria
Ryanair has announced for winter 2025 the largest ever operation in Calabria, consolidating its investment after the abolition of the municipal surcharge wanted in August 2024 by the President of the Region, Roberto Occhiuto.
The winter plan provides for the arrival of a fourth aircraft based in Calabria (for a total of 4) and a total investment of 400 million dollars.
Direct connections will be guaranteed with 35 destinations, including 8 new routes:
- from Lamezia Terme to Bratislava, Bucharest, Krakow, Madrid, Memmingen, Trieste, Wroclaw
- from Crotone to Düsseldorf (Weeze NRN airport).
Thanks to this expansion, Ryanair expects to carry 3 million passengers annually in Calabria and support over 2,300 local jobs, including 120 direct jobs in the aviation sector.
The 2025 winter schedule will include:
- 4 aircraft based, of which 2 at Reggio Calabria airport (REG) and 2 at Lamezia Terme airport (SUF)
- 35 routes in total (11 from Reggio Calabria, 19 from Lamezia Terme and 5 from Crotone)
- 60,000 additional seats at low fares on domestic routes, for a total of 970,000.
Since the abolition of the municipal surcharge, Ryanair has increased capacity by +75% (+1.4 million seats), opened a base in Reggio Calabria, based 3 additional aircraft and inaugurated 20 new routes. In addition, it has invested 15 million euros in two maintenance hangars.
