The Airport of Reggio Calabria, or Airport of the Strait, is the second largest airport in terms of passenger numbers Calabria and was the first airport built in the region. Socal S.p.A., the management company of the Airport of the Strait, provides assistance to all carriers, and manages airport structures and infrastructures.
In order to increase the passenger traffic at the Airport of the Strait, a series of work on the upgrading and the expansion of the air side and all infrastructures has been made, with some work still in progress. In fact, the second runway, 11/29, has been made operational since February. In addition, the work on the extension of runway 15/33 was completed in early 2012, today it having a length of 2060 meters.
The connections between the airport and the city of Reggio Calabria, Villa San Giovanni, Messina, Taormina and the Aeolian Islands, are easy.

Transportation to/from the airport
Train
Is possible to reach the Airport of the Strait by train, thanks to the station RFI “Reggio Calabria Airport” (Trenitalia), whose rails connect both Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts with Reggio Calabria. The railway station is about one kilometer far from the airport terminal, and there is a free shuttle service between the two terminals.
Bus
The connections to/from Reggio Calabria are made with municipal bus of urban public transport (Atam SpA).

The airport is connected to the city of Reggio Calabria from RA4 / E90 (Jonica National Road 106). Distance about 7.8 Km. Travel time about 15 minutes.

A taxi service is always available in the square which is opposite the air terminal and at the pier of the port.
