20 million passengers at Fiumicino with Wizz Air
The carrier's most popular destinations from Rome: Barcelona, London, Madrid, Paris and Valencia. From March, new flights to Bilbao and Zaragoza
Wizz Air has reached a historic milestone: 20 million passengers transited through Rome Fiumicino Airport. In 2024, Wizz Air operated a total of 300,000 flights, of which over 90,000 in Italy and more than 30,000 departing from Rome Fiumicino. At this airport alone, the company recorded a growth of 38% compared to the previous year, carrying more than 6.5 million passengers. Nationally, the company saw an increase of 15%, exceeding 18.5 million travelers throughout Italy.
Wizz Air's network includes almost 90 destinations. Rome is Wizz Air's largest hub in Italy. Roman travelers make up a significant part of Wizz Air's clientele, with destinations such as London, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris and Valencia among the most popular for tourism and business travel. The airline's network will continue to expand: from the end of March, Wizz Air will launch a new route from Rome to Bilbao and an exclusive direct connection to Zaragoza, offering passengers even more travel opportunities.
Sustainability remains one of the fundamental pillars of the company's strategy. In Italy, Wizz Air operates exclusively with Airbus A321neo aircraft, which are among the most efficient in terms of fuel consumption and emissions, thus reinforcing its commitment to greener and more responsible air transport. In addition, the company has inaugurated a new Training Center near Fiumicino airport, operational from 1 October 2024, dedicated to the training of its more than 7,000 employees.
The celebration of the 20 millionth passenger was accompanied by a special event at Fiumicino airport, before the departure of the flight to Vienna. During the ceremony, travelers were able to join in the festivities and the lucky 20 millionth passenger received a Wizz Air award voucher, sealing a memorable moment for the airline and its passengers.
