TAP Air Portugal celebrates 45 years of flights between Rome and Lisbon
TAP Air Portugal today celebrated the 45th anniversary of the Rome Fiumicino-Lisbon connection, one of the company's longest-running and most symbolic routes, active since 1980 and a reference point in connections between Italy and Portugal.
To seal the occasion, the Airbus A321neo LR (Long Range) landed at Rome Fiumicino airport, a latest-generation aircraft capable of covering up to 7,400 kilometers non-stop, making direct flights between Lisbon and intercontinental destinations such as New York possible.
The aircraft is part of the TAP's fleet renewal plan, which includes the introduction of 20 new A320 Family aircraft by 2029 (10 A320neo and 10 A321neo) designed to offer extended range and fuel consumption reduced by up to 30% compared to previous models.
For the 2026 summer season, TAP plans to restore five daily flights between Rome and Lisbon, distributed throughout the day to ensure convenient connections to the network's many destinations.
As Portugal's flag carrier and the "carrier of the Atlantic", TAP Air Portugal continues to be a point of reference for travel to and from Portugal. Its hub in Lisbon is a strategic platform to Latin America, Africa and the United States, and the company confirms its leadership in connections between Europe and Brazil, serving 13 direct destinations from Portugal. Today, TAP operates 85 destinations with more than 1,250 weekly frequencies, reaffirming its key role in connecting the two sides of the Atlantic.
