New codeshare agreement between ITA Airways and Air Canada
Air Canada and ITA Airways are strengthening their collaboration by announcing a new codeshare agreement, which will provide passengers with more travel options and smoother connections between Canada and Italy.
Starting July 21, 2025, Air Canada will apply its AC code on a number of ITA Airways-operated flights departing from Rome Fiumicino, to five Italian cities – Lamezia Terme, Palermo, Catania, Florence and Bari – and to some international destinations, including Cairo, Tunis and Algiers (the latter two subject to government approval), Tirana and Tel Aviv (temporarily suspended).
In parallel, ITA Airways will enter its AZ code on Air Canada flights from Toronto Pearson to six Canadian cities (Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and St. John's) and four US cities (Boston, Orlando, Dallas and Fort Lauderdale).
Both companies work to implement reciprocity in loyalty programs, allowing the accumulation and redemption of points between their respective frequent flyers. In addition, ITA Airways is preparing to join Star Alliance in early 2026, further expanding the global travel possibilities for its customers.
This partnership is part of the broader expansion plan of Air Canada's network in Italy: in the summer 2025 season, the airline operates up to 39 weekly flights to and from Italy, carrying over 13,000 passengers per week. Recently, the new Montreal - Naples connection was inaugurated, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. The Neapolitan city joins the routes already active to Rome, Milan and Venice.
Air Canada also offers intermodal connections with Trenitalia, allowing travelers to comfortably continue their journey to over 30 Italian cities by high-speed or regional train.
Ita Airways, for its part, offers a total offer for the summer to 59 destinations, including 16 intercontinental, 27 international and 16 domestic, with additional seasonal destinations in the Mediterranean. The airline has also expanded its network through codeshare agreements with five Lufthansa Group carriers, opening the door to more than 100 new destinations in Europe and around the world.
