ITA Airways: new 2026-2030 business plan approved

Focus on long-haul (North America, South America, Asia and Africa), next-generation fleet and strategic integration with the Lufthansa Group

ITA Airways' Board of Directors has approved the 2026-2030 Business Plan, setting the course for the company's solid and sustainable growth over the next five years. The project is developed around three key guidelines: competitive strengthening, network and fleet development, and full integration within the Lufthansa Group.

ITA Airways aims to consolidate itself as a reference carrier for Italy, offering high quality services for business and leisure passengers, with constant attention to economic, social and environmental sustainability.

At the heart of the strategy is the expansion of long-haul with new intercontinental routes departing from the Rome Fiumicino hub to destinations in the strategic markets of North America, South America, Asia and Africa. At the same time, the strengthening of European and Mediterranean connections will also continue, thanks to partnerships and codeshares with other carriers.

From an operational point of view, the plan provides for the introduction of a new long-haul aircraft every year starting in 2026, to arrive in 2030 at a fleet consisting almost exclusively of new generation aircraft, more efficient and less impactful from an environmental point of view. The average number of aircraft will be around 100 aircraft.

The consolidation of integration into the Lufthansa Group will also be fundamental, with strategic and operational synergies that will lead to an increase in revenues and cost containment. ITA Airways will join Star Alliance in early 2026 and, subject to antitrust clearance, will take part in the joint ventures A++ (for flights between Europe and North America) and J+ (for flights between Europe and Japan). The integration of the Volare and Miles&More loyalty programs and greater cooperation in the cargo sector are also planned.

On the domestic front, a staff growth plan is planned linked to the expansion of the fleet and network, with initiatives aimed at strengthening the sense of corporate belonging, promoting professional development and positioning ITA Airways as an attractive reality in the international aviation landscape.

Ita Airways is the Italian airline 59% owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and 41% by Deutsche Lufthansa AG. It operates passenger and cargo air transport services and guarantees Italy quality connectivity to national and international destinations, taking advantage of integrated mobility. At the heart of its strategy is customer service combined with sustainability (environmental, with a technologically advanced fleet to reduce environmental impact; social and governance).
