Emirates boosts flights to Africa
Introduction of additional flights from Dubai to Entebbe in Uganda, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and Johannesburg in South Africa
Emirates has further strengthened its presence in Africa by introducing new flights to Entebbe in Uganda, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and Johannesburg in South Africa. Since its historic maiden flight to Africa in Cairo in 1986, Emirates has gradually expanded its network across the continent to 20 passenger and cargo access points, facilitating connectivity and the development of air transport in Africa.
Increased frequencies to optimize connectivity
► Since 27 October, Emirates has increased flights between Dubai and Uganda, from five weekly flights to one daily service. This connection, operated with a Boeing 777-300ER, adds 718 weekly seats on the Dubai-Entebbe route, connecting with major destinations such as Canada, the United States, India and the United Kingdom. Emirates remains the only airline to offer First Class on the flight to Entebbe.
► To celebrate the start of 2025, Emirates will increase flight frequencies to Ethiopia, with a daily service between Dubai and Addis Ababa starting from 1 January. With the aim of positioning Ethiopia among the top five tourist destinations in Africa by 2025, Emirates will offer even more convenient access for travellers from the Middle East and Far East.
► From 1 March 2025, Emirates will introduce a fourth daily flight to Johannesburg, with a new morning slot that will improve connectivity to and from South Africa's busiest international airport. This operation brings Emirates back to pre-pandemic levels, with 49 weekly flights to South Africa, one of Africa's most popular destinations.
With these new frequencies, Emirates will reach a total of 161 weekly flights between Africa and Dubai.
Expanding the network to support the African market
Emirates serves 17 African countries, as well as a further 63 countries and territories around the world, ensuring almost unrivalled connectivity, enhanced by its extensive network of partnerships. In Africa, thanks to 5 codeshare partners and 18 interline agreements, Emirates offers over 210 regional destinations, allowing travellers to travel with a single ticket and simplified baggage handling.
In 2023, Emirates expanded its offering with an interline agreement with Royal Air Maroc, allowing access to 18 new destinations in Morocco, including Fez, Tangier and Marrakech, as well as 17 additional routes from Dubai thanks to interline agreements.
Emirates' partnerships also allow access to exclusive destinations, such as Margate and Plettenberg Bay thanks to the interline agreement with the South African carrier Cemair, and unique safaris in the Lower Zambezi National Park via Pro Flight Zambia.
Earlier this month, Emirates also reinstated its daily direct flight to Lagos, connecting Nigeria's economic hub to the airline's global First Class network.
