Egyptair in strong growth with focus on Italy

Enhancement of flights from Milan and Rome to Cairo. Among the favorite destinations for Italians in connection with a stopover in Cairo: Nairobi, Jakarta, Canton-Guangzhou and Johannesburg

Egyptair, Egypt's flag carrier, ended 2024 with particularly positive results, both globally and on the Italian market. Thanks to the expansion of the network, the introduction of new technologies and a renewed commitment to sustainability, the carrier has strengthened its role in the international air transport landscape.

Over 10 million passengers worldwide

During 2024, Egyptair carried over 10.2 million passengers, marking a growth of +4% compared to 9.8 million in 2023. Of these, as many as 8.6 million flew on international routes. Operational capacity has also increased significantly: available seats have grown by +15%, while total flight hours have reached 218,798, with an increase of +10% on an annual basis.

Italy: solid performance in Rome and Milan

The Italian market has also shown signs of constant growth. The average Load Factor in 2024 reached 74%, with over 264,000 passengers carried, representing an increase of +5.1% compared to the previous year. Specifically, Rome saw an improvement in the filling rate, from 65% to 72%, while Milan maintained an excellent 75%.

The strengthening of flights to Cairo and the expansion of connections to destinations in Africa and Asia have consolidated the carrier's role as a reference point for travelers departing from Italy.

Routes and preferences of Italian passengers

During the summer of 2024, the most popular destinations for Italian passengers who flew with Egyptair, making a stopover in Cairo, were:

  • Nairobi (Kenya): 25%
  • Jakarta (Indonesia): 23%
  • Guangzhou-Guangzhou (China): 20%
  • Johannesburg (South Africa): 15%.

To meet the growing demand, the airline has boosted direct flights between Italy and Cairo, reaching 30 weekly flights divided equally between Milan and Rome, with a total capacity of over 4,000 passengers per week.

Among the novelties is also the introduction of the direct Milan Malpensa - Luxor route, designed to meet the seasonal flows related to cultural and experiential tourism. In addition, it has operated numerous charter flights in collaboration with the main Italian tour operators, serving strategic locations for holidays on the Red Sea.

International expansion of the network

In 2024, the carrier significantly expanded its international network, with new destinations in:

  • Middle East: Taif and Tabuk (Saudi Arabia), Fujairah (United Arab Emirates),
  • Africa: Mogadishu (Somalia), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Djibouti and Misrata (Libya),
  • Europe: Direct flights were launched from Cairo to Zurich, Prague and Lisbon, strengthening connectivity between the continent and the Egyptian hub.

The strategic objective is to strengthen Cairo as a privileged gateway to the African continent, with a growing focus on long-haul routes.

Sustainability and fleet renewal

Egyptair also reinforces its commitment to sustainability, in line with the United Nations' environmental goals. Among the concrete actions:

  • Order for 10 Airbus A350-900s, state-of-the-art aircraft in terms of fuel efficiency and reduced CO₂ emissions. These aircraft, equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines and AirSpace cabins, will guarantee high comfort and a low environmental impact.
  • 18 Boeing B737-8 MAX aircraft are on the way, with the first deliveries expected in 2025 and full operation expected by the end of 2026.
