The future of airports in Puglia

The ENAC-Aeroporti di Puglia Program Contract has been signed: over 218 million for innovation, sustainability and infrastructural enhancement by 2027

The 2024-2027 Programme Contract between ENAC and Aeroporti di Puglia has been officially signed, which provides for an investment plan of more than 218 million euros for the development and upgrading of the Apulian Airport Network. The document, which regulates the relations between the National Civil Aviation Authority and the airport operator, defines shared objectives in terms of quality of services, environmental sustainability, operational safety and financial solidity.

The interventions aim to strengthen Puglia's connectivity with the main national and international destinations, enhancing the specific vocation of each port. The plan provides for the following distribution of investments: 30% at Bari airport (BRI), 25% at Brindisi airport (BDS), 23% at Taranto-Grottaglie airport (TAR) and 22% at Foggia airport (FOG).

The four-year plan outlines the future of Apulian airports, focusing on expanding accommodation capacity, digitizing services, technological innovation and decarbonization objectives, in line with the new needs of mobility and the evolution of the air transport market.

Since its approval in August 2023, Aeroporti di Puglia has already launched numerous planned interventions, including:

  • the functional reorganization of the Grottaglie passenger terminal, currently underway;
  • the redevelopment of the aircraft parking apron and passenger terminal of the Foggia-Gino Lisa airport, with award procedures at an advanced stage;
  • the redevelopment works of the RWY 13/31 runway and the seismic adaptation of the Brindisi passenger terminal, already completed, and the redevelopment of the RWY 05/23 runway, in the executive phase;
  • the infrastructural renewal in Bari, with a new AVL substation, the seismic adaptation and the redevelopment of the toilets, already carried out, in addition to the flooring, which is currently under construction;
  • the upgrading of the baggage handling system (BHS), currently underway at Bari and Brindisi airports.

ENAC confirmed the financial and management solidity of Aeroporti di Puglia, underlining that all indicators attest to a structural ability to meet the commitments made in the long term. A condition that allows us to look to the future with confidence and face infrastructural, environmental and operational challenges with economic sustainability and strategic vision.
