Swiss and Neustark together for permanent CO₂ removal
Swiss International Air Lines has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with the Swiss start-up Neustark, a pioneer of a unique technology that allows carbon dioxide to be stored in demolished concrete, thus permanently removing it from the atmosphere.
The process is simple: CO₂ captured from biogas plants is injected into crushed concrete from demolished buildings. Here a natural reaction takes place that transforms the gas into a stable mineral, trapping it forever inside the material, which can then be reused in new constructions.
The agreement, valid until 2030, represents a key step in the decarbonisation strategy of Swiss and the Lufthansa Group, which aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Swiss thus becomes the first airline in the world to support this technology, alongside other innovative projects already underway with Synhelion (solar fuel) and Climeworks (direct capture of CO₂ from the air). The Swiss company confirms its role as a trailblazer in the search for concrete and permanent solutions for a more sustainable future of air transport.
