Swiss accelerates the use of sustainable fuels

Strategic partnership for the development of Synhelion's synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuels

SWISS and Kuehne+Nagel are strengthening their collaboration by announcing a strategic partnership aimed at promoting more sustainable air transport, focusing on the development and commercialisation of synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) produced by Swiss clean-tech Synhelion.

The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides for joint commitment on various sustainability projects, with a particular focus on new technologies capable of improving the environmental efficiency of the aviation and air logistics sector.

A concrete commitment to SAF scalability

Central to the agreement is the long-term commitment to purchase Synhelion's synthetic SAF, a choice that provides producers with a solid planning basis to increase production capacity and accelerate the deployment of these innovative fuels

Under the agreement, SWISS undertakes to purchase at least 200 tonnes of SAF Synhelion per year, some of which will be sold to Kuehne+Nagel, which will use these fuels for its air cargo transport with Swiss WorldCargo from 2027 and for a period of five years.

Decarbonization of air transport and logistics

The use of sustainable fuels will enable SWISS and Kuehne+Nagel to concretely reduce the carbon footprint of air transport, while offering cargo customers the opportunity to reduce their emissions through more responsible logistics solutions.

Synthetic SAF is one of the key tools for achieving the climate goals of the aviation industry, which is still limited by the scarce availability and high costs of these advanced fuels.
