Iberia accelerates towards energy savings
Solar systems installed to save energy and reduce CO₂ emissions at Iberia's main maintenance base
La Muñoza is Iberia's main maintenance centre, located in Madrid and plays a strategic role for the company's fleet. It covers a large area equipped with a hangar for aircraft maintenance and repair, an engine test station and an advanced technical services center. This complex was designed to ensure operational efficiency and flight safety, but today it also represents a center of excellence in environmental sustainability. Recently, Iberia partnered with Getting Greener to install self-consumption photovoltaic systems in its main hangars, in line with the company's goal of reducing CO₂ emissions and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
With a total capacity of up to two megawatts, the La Muñoza plants will cover about half of Iberia's energy needs over the next three years, reducing energy consumption by 8 million kWh annually. In addition to this, the new transformation center will allow a stable connection of the plants to the grid, helping to cut 160,000 tons of CO₂ emissions during the life cycle of the project.
Iberia operates direct flights from the main Italian airports. Its connections facilitate travel, not only between Italy and Spain but also between several international destinations, with convenient connections from the Madrid hub allowing Italian passengers to reach numerous destinations around the world
