Fiumicino: more assistance for passengers with reduced mobility

Agreement between RFI and ADR Assistance to ensure continuous support between train and plane at Rome airport station

Improving the travel experience of people with disabilities and reduced mobility (PRM) who travel between train and plane: this is the objective of the agreement signed between Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and ADR Assistance, a subsidiary of Aeroporti di Roma, for the Fiumicino Airport railway station.

The protocol introduces a structured model of cooperation between the railway and airport assistance services, with the aim of ensuring continuous, coordinated and smoother assistance to PRM passengers along the entire travel route, from train to aircraft and vice versa. The agreement follows the agreement already signed at the end of 2024 for the Turin Airport station and strengthens the integration between the country's main infrastructure nodes.

Continuous accompaniment between rail and airport

Thanks to a strengthened coordination between the RFI and ADR Assistance operations rooms, the new structure allows for clearer and more linear passenger care, reducing waiting times and improving the overall quality of the service. The transfer of responsibility between the two operators takes place at a specific interchange point, identified by a dedicated totem inside the railway station of the Roman airport.

Requests for assistance will continue to be submitted separately, in compliance with the skills and regulations in force, and the provision of the service will remain entrusted to the specialized personnel of each organization. Instead, the overall process will be monitored and managed jointly, ensuring greater continuity throughout all stages of the journey.

How to request assistance at the station

For the Fiumicino Airport railway station, the assistance service can be requested through all the official channels made available by RFI, including:

  • Blue Rooms, open every day (including holidays) from 6:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • E-mail: salablu.roma@rfi.it
  • Toll-free number: 800 90 60 60 (from a landline in Italy)
  • Phone: +39 02 32 32 32 (from mobile and abroad)
  • Online portal: Sala Blu Online
  • App: Sala Blu Plus (available for iOS and Android)

A step forward for accessibility

The initiative is part of RFI's broader path aimed at improving the accessibility of railway stations and services, enhancing collaboration with the main interchange hubs and placing people's needs at the centre. For PRM passengers in transit to and from Leonardo Da Vinci Fiumicino Airport, the agreement represents a concrete step towards a simpler, more coordinated and inclusive journey.
