American Airlines boosts flights between Italy and the United States
For Summer 2026, American Airlines strengthens its presence in Italy. From which Italian airports do you operate and which destinations in the United States will you be connected?
"For the 2026 summer season, American Airlines continues to strengthen its presence in the Italian market, with a network that in peak periods provides up to 13 daily flights between Italy and the United States. We operate from four Italian airports: Rome Fiumicino, Milan Malpensa, Venice Marco Polo and Naples Capodichino. From Rome Fiumicino we connect New York JFK, Philadelphia, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami. From Milan Malpensa we operate flights to New York JFK, Philadelphia and Miami. From Venice Marco Polo we serve Philadelphia and Dallas/Fort Worth, while from Naples Capodichino there are connections to Philadelphia and Chicago. It is a wide and articulated offer, designed to meet both leisure and business demand, with direct connections to some of American Airlines' main hubs in the United States".
What is the main novelty of Summer 2026 for the Italian market?
"The main novelty of Summer 2026 is the return of the direct connection between Milan Malpensa and Miami. It is a highly anticipated flight, operated daily, which further enriches our offer from Milan, where we are already present with connections to New York (JFK Airport), operating all year round, and Philadelphia, seasonal. With the introduction of the Milan-Miami route, American Airlines achieves a historic result at the Lombardy airport: up to three daily flights to the United States during the 2026 summer season. It is the widest offer ever operated by the company from Milan Malpensa and confirms the strategic role of the airport for our development in Italy. For Italian passengers, this connection has an important value because it responds to a very strong demand for travel between Northern Italy and Florida, a destination appreciated both for tourism and for business reasons. Miami is also a privileged gateway to South Florida, cruises, the Caribbean and numerous destinations on the American continent, thanks to the possibilities of continuation offered by our network. Coinciding with the start of the Milan-Miami flight, the coffee served on board and in the American Airlines Admirals Club® lounges is signed by Lavazza. It is a partnership that enhances an internationally recognized Italian excellence and contributes to making the travel experience even more familiar and cared for Italian passengers".
Thanks to American Airlines' US hubs, which destinations can passengers departing from Italy reach with a single stopover?
"American Airlines operates through a network of nine hubs in the United States. For Italian passengers, airports connected directly from Italy, such as Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, Miami and New York JFK, represent fundamental gateways to our global network. With just one short stopover in the United States, travellers departing from Italy can reach over 350 destinations in more than 60 countries including the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America. This model allows us to offer a wide choice of itineraries and greater flexibility, both for those traveling to major American cities and for those wishing to continue to leisure, business or long-haul destinations on the American continent".
How are you working to improve the passenger experience before, during and after the flight?
"We are investing significantly in the entire travel experience, with the aim of making it smoother, more predictable and comfortable at every stage. Before the flight, we focus on digital tools that allow passengers to manage the journey independently, from check-in to the management of ancillary services, up to the prepayment of luggage. In our main hubs, we are also renewing the on-shore experience with next-generation lounges, such as the Flagship Lounges® and the Admirals Club®, designed as spaces of modern hospitality. At Miami International Airport, for example, major investments are also planned in the new Concourse D, with the aim of improving comfort, connection flows and operational efficiency. During the flight, we work to enhance the time spent on board through differentiated cabins, renewed premium services, new amenity kits, improved bedding and a gastronomic proposal also inspired by the destinations served. Connectivity is increasingly central: we offer gate-to-gate high-speed Wi-Fi, flexible access options and entertainment that can also be enjoyed by personal devices. After landing, we continue to work on the simplicity of travel, especially in the arrival, transit and connection phases. Digital tools support baggage tracking, and in the event of operational irregularities, the use of digital and artificial intelligence solutions allows us to provide timely updates and faster rerouting options".
What are the main features of your baggage policy?
"Our baggage policy is structured to adapt to the different needs of passengers and different fare types. On board it is always allowed to bring a personal item to be stored under the seat and a hand luggage, respecting the dimensions provided. For checked baggage, the allowance varies by class of travel, route and AAdvantage® status, with discounts for premium passengers and frequent flyers. We have also invested in digital tools that allow passengers to manage their baggage easily and autonomously, including the ability to prepay for items online or via app, monitor their status and reduce time at the airport. In the event of operational coincidences or changes, we adopt specific procedures to improve reliability in the management and recovery of personal belongings".
What aircraft does the American Airlines fleet consist of, and what amenities are available on board?
"American Airlines has one of the largest and most modern fleets among U.S. carriers, with continued investment in next-generation Boeing and Airbus aircraft. The renewal of the fleet is accompanied by an increase in premium seats and the gradual introduction of Flagship Suites® on widebody aircraft. On board, we offer differentiated cabins, including Flagship®, Business, Premium Economy and Main Cabin, with services designed to meet different travel needs. The experience includes Wi-Fi, entertainment, curated dining, and services included or purchasable at the rate selected. Our goal is to guarantee a consistent, competitive and recognizable product, both on long-haul international routes and in continuation connections within the network".
How is American Airlines using technology and artificial intelligence to improve travel?
"Technology is a central element of our strategy to improve the passenger experience. We are investing in advanced digital tools and AI-based solutions to make travel easier, more personalized and under the passenger's control. This approach covers all stages of the journey: from planning to itinerary management, to responding to operational irregularities. Digital solutions allow us to provide more timely information, personalized suggestions, faster rerouting options and greater autonomy in managing the trip. The goal is to reduce stress, improve the predictability of the experience and also make connections in our main hubs easier".
What are American Airlines' most recent sustainability and emissions reduction initiatives?
"Sustainability is a strategic priority for American Airlines. We have defined a long-term path oriented towards reducing the environmental impact of our operations, working on several fronts. The first concerns the renewal of the fleet, with more modern and efficient aircraft. Added to this is the commitment to an increasing use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, the development of technological solutions to improve operational efficiency and the support of innovative CO₂ removal initiatives. It is an integrated approach, which aims to combine the growth of the network with an increasingly responsible management of resources, in collaboration with industrial and institutional partners".
Why should an Italian passenger choose American Airlines to fly to the United States and beyond?
"Choosing American Airlines means relying on an airline with one of the most extensive global networks in the world, a strong hub structure in the United States and an ongoing commitment to improving the travel experience. For Italian passengers, we offer direct connections from four airports, a network capable of opening access to over 350 destinations with a single stopover and a constantly evolving product, thanks to investments in fleet, premium services, airport infrastructure, digitalisation and sustainability.
