Dalí and Fashion in Milan
Milan dedicates a major exhibition to the relationship between Salvador Dalí and fashion. From September 24, 2026 to January 31, 2027, Palazzo Reale hosts "Dalí and Fashion", an international exhibition project that brings together over 200 works and documents from important museums, foundations and historical archives of the most famous fashion houses.
The exhibition opens on the occasion of Milan Fashion Week 2026 and offers a journey into the creative universe of the Spanish artist through paintings, drawings, photographs, clothes, films, jewelry and objects. The exhibition explores not only Dalí's influence on fashion, but also the role that the latter played in the construction of his public image and his artistic language.
Over 200 works of art, fashion and surrealism
The main nucleus of the exhibition comes from the three largest collections of Salvador Dalí's works in the world: the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí in Figueres, the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
In addition to these loans, there are materials from the historical archives of Schiaparelli, Chanel, Dior and Rabanne, maisons with which Dalí's surrealist imagery has established a profound and lasting dialogue. The exhibition thus allows us to observe how forms, symbols and provocations typical of the artist have entered the language of clothing, accessories, photography and fashion communication.
Salvador Dalí and contemporary fashion
"Dalí and Fashion" analyzes themes that are still central to contemporary culture, such as the construction of identity, the spectacularization of the image, the relationship between art and consumption and the ability of creativity to transform reality. Dalí understood the dynamics of modern communication well in advance. He used shop windows, advertising campaigns, magazines, covers, and commercial collaborations as extensions of his own artistic work, helping to bridge the gap between art, fashion, and popular culture.
The exhibition itinerary therefore tells the story of a total artist, capable of moving between different disciplines and transforming his figure into a real media phenomenon.
An international exhibition during Milan Fashion Week
The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Culture and is organized and produced by Palazzo Reale, MondoMostre and Civita Mostre e Musei, in collaboration with the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí. The scientific direction is entrusted to Montse Aguer, director of the Dalí Museums, while the curatorship is by Laura Bartolomé and Judith Clark, with the contribution of senior curators Lucia Moni and Bea Crespo.
The opening during Milan Fashion Week strengthens the link between the exhibition and the international identity of the city, offering visitors a new cultural event to be included in a trip to Milan dedicated to art, fashion and design.
