Work in progress at BER: faster checks and new services for passengers
At Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), new security technologies and a renovated refreshment area improve the travel experience
A major modernization phase has been launched to improve the speed and efficiency of security checks. By spring 2025, Terminal 1 will be equipped with new CT scanners that will allow passengers not to remove liquids and electronics from hand luggage, significantly reducing waiting times and increasing the flow of travelers per hour by 50%. Subsequently, the control lanes of the northern section will also be adapted by autumn 2025.
In parallel, the airport will introduce "Adler & Bär", a new restaurant located on the departures level in Terminal 1, designed to offer a dining experience in a refined environment with personalized lighting according to the time of day. This new structure is part of the area previously occupied by the information office, now located on the lower floor. The Mobility Service will remain in the departures level but will be moved under the tunnel.
The passport control area has also been strengthened, increasing the number of counters from 10 to 24 and doubling the EasyPass gates to speed up checks for travellers heading to non-Schengen countries. The new layout has extended the waiting area from 220 to 580 square meters, improving flow management and increasing capacity by more than 50%. These interventions reflect Berlin-Brandenburg Airport's (BER) commitment to ensuring a more comfortable, efficient and modern travel experience for all passengers.
