The new Terminal 1 Pier at Munich Airport
Munich Airport, one of Europe's leading hubs, has officially opened its new Terminal 1 pier, an expansion designed to strengthen the airport's capacity and improve the passenger experience.
The new pier in Terminal 1 is a major challenge for those flying to or from Munich. With an area of approximately 95,000 square meters and a length of 360 meters, the new facility can handle up to 6 million additional passengers per year, helping to make transit through the airport smoother and expand the offer of international connections.
For Travellers, the most important innovations concern above all comfort, functionality and quality of services. The facility is spread over six levels, three of which are dedicated to passenger operations, and includes modern check-in areas, centralized security checks with the latest CT technology, large waiting rooms, relaxation areas, quiet spaces and prayer rooms. A set of services designed to make time spent at the airport easier and more enjoyable, both before departure and during any waiting times.
From an operational point of view, the new pier can accommodate up to twelve short- and medium-haul or six-wide-body aircraft at the same time, and will accommodate about 40 international airlines . This further strengthens Munich Airport's role as a strategic access point for Europe and intercontinental connections.
The premium offer is also particularly well cared for. The new space houses two dedicated lounges. The Airport Lounge World, developed on two floors for an area of 1,200 square meters, offers views of the slope and the Alpine panorama, areas for working and relaxing, food proposals and a children's play area. In addition, there is the Emirates Lounge, reserved for eligible customers of the company and located in the pier, Terminal 1 A, level 4.
Catering and shopping also play a central role in the new layout of the terminal. With the opening of the pier, Munich Airport introduces a completely renewed gastronomic concept, based on quality products, contemporary design and more welcoming environments. The five new restaurants, managed by Allresto, a subsidiary of the airport, combine regional specialties and international proposals, including halal, vegetarian and vegan options.
The heart of the new pier is the central market, conceived as a meeting and resting space, around which about 20 commercial and service areas are developed. Among the novelties stands out the first Duty-Free Walkthrough area at Munich Airport, with reference brands in the beauty, spirits and accessories sectors. The commercial offer also includes international brands such as Boss, Ralph Lauren, Emporio Armani and TUMI, alongside realities more linked to the territory, such as the Bayern Munich fan shop.
The project was carried out with an investment of 665 million euros, financed directly by Munich Airport despite the difficulties faced by the sector in the years of the pandemic. A clear signal of the desire to continue the development of the airport and to strengthen its competitive positioning.
