Rome Fiumicino airport confirmed as the best in Europe

For the seventh time since 2018, the "Leonardo da Vinci" has won the Best Airport Award in the over 40 million passengers category: operational excellence, innovation and sustainability recognised

Rome Fiumicino is once again confirmed as the best European airport for the category over 40 million passengers per year. This was announced by ACI Europe (Airports Council International) during its 35th General Assembly held in Athens, awarding the airport the prestigious Best Airport Award 2025, the seventh recognition since 2018.

 

Managed by ADR (a Mundys group company), the "Leonardo da Vinci" airport stood out for its excellence in operational management, the strong push towards ecological transition, thanks also to the largest self-consumption photovoltaic plant in Europe inaugurated in January, and the data-driven approach in the management of airport flows. The jury, composed of eight experts and representatives of European institutions such as the EU Commission, EUROCONTROL and SESAR JU, also rewarded the institutional collaboration consolidated by the airport.

 

To further strengthen the continental primacy, also the recent entry of Fiumicino in 8th place in Skytrax's global ranking of the best airports in the world. Furthermore, since 2017, ACI World has awarded the "Leonardo da Vinci" the title of best airport for the quality of passenger services, thanks to the data collected through the international Airport Service Quality program.

 

Confirming the centrality of the hub in European mobility, in the first five months of 2025 Rome Fiumicino Airport recorded an increase in passenger traffic of +7% compared to the same period in 2024.

 

During the same ceremony, ACI Europe also presented a Special Award to Ukrainian airports, for their outstanding resilience despite the ongoing war. Even with national airspace closed, these airports continue to work to maintain infrastructure and support their staff, receiving the symbolic support of the European airport community.
