New departures area at Reggio Calabria airport
The Tito Minniti Strait Airport in Reggio Calabria has inaugurated the new departures area of the passenger terminal, an intervention designed to improve the travel experience, increase comfort while waiting for boarding and make the management of airport flows more efficient.
The new structure is spread over two levels and offers 3,600 square meters of floor space, with a total expansion of about 20,000 cubic meters. For the Reggio airport, this is an important step in the process of relaunching and modernizing the airport.
The most important news for passengers is the new 1,300-square-meter boarding hall, equipped with four gates. The larger spaces allow for a more comfortable stay before the flight and a more orderly management of boarding operations.
The terminal also introduces state-of-the-art carry-on baggage screening systems. Passengers can carry up to 2 litres of liquids without having to take them out of their baggage during security checks. This innovation reduces process time and makes the transition to checks easier and faster.
One of the most recognizable elements of the new departures area is the large glass surface. The 1,600 square meters of sloping windows offer a panoramic view of the runway, the sea of the Strait of Messina, the Sicilian coasts and Mount Etna. Waiting for the flight thus becomes part of the travel experience, with a direct view of one of the most identifying landscapes of Southern Italy.
The architectural project combines functionality, technology and reference to the territory. Escalators, colored panels and a LED lighting system enhance the interiors, echoing the shades of the sea of the Strait, the sunset sky over Reggio Calabria and the Calabrian natural landscapes.
The new commercial area of Reggio Calabria Airport (REG) also expands the services available before departure. Passengers find new spaces for shopping and a modern duty free, with attention to typical Calabrian products. The travel retail offer thus also becomes a tool to promote local excellence and tell the identity of the Reggio Calabria area within the airport.
