Milan airports, 2025 closes with record traffic
SEA's Board of Directors has approved the draft financial statements and the consolidated sustainability report, which reveal a series of useful data and indications also for passengers, including traffic growth, expansion of connectivity, investments in terminals and development of services at Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airports.
Record traffic in the Milan airport system
In 2025, Milan airports handled a total of 42.3 million passengers, up 8% compared to 2024. Malpensa welcomed 31.2 million Travellers, while Linate stood at 11.1 million. It is a result that confirms the increasingly strategic role of the two airports for those traveling to and from Northern Italy.
More destinations and more choice of flight
For passengers, one of the most interesting elements concerns the expansion of the Malpensa network, which has gone from 198 to 204 destinations. The airport directly connects 82 countries and 27.4% of the network is represented by long-haul connections, thus strengthening its international vocation, offering more possibilities for direct travel on both medium and long haul.
Growing services in the terminals
The document also highlights the development of the non-aviation component, i.e. those services that directly affect the passenger experience at the airport. In 2025, growth was supported by the opening of new stores, including the Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior boutiques at Malpensa, and the increase in revenues related to lounges and parking. For the traveler, it means a stay at the airport supported by a wider range of services, shopping and waiting spaces.
Investments for more efficient airports
SEA made investments of 152.4 million euros in 2025. The interventions focused mainly on Malpensa Terminal 1, also in view of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, with extraordinary maintenance, seismic adjustments, improvements to rainwater drainage, redevelopment of boarding piers and work in the areas dedicated to local public transport.
At Linate, on the other hand, the expansion of the general aviation terminal, the parking lot for airport operators and the works related to the Linate Airport District project continued. For passengers it is a concrete sign of modernization of infrastructure and attention to the quality of flows at the airport.
Sustainability: renewable energy and reduced consumption
On the environmental front, SEA reports interventions for the reduction of consumption and the development of energy from renewable sources, with the entry into operation of the new Linate photovoltaic plant in the last quarter of 2025. SEA has also purchased green electricity equal to 35% of its electricity needs and has continued to develop low-emission mobility solutions at the airports.
2026 starts with a plus sign
The positive trend continued in the first months of 2026. In the first two months of the year, the Milan airport system recorded a 7% increase in passengers and 3% in cargo, supported by the expansion of the offer and the strengthening of international connectivity.
Malpensa and Linate increasingly strategic for tourism
The report also underlines the role of the two airports as gateways to the territory. In 2025, Malpensa and Linate facilitated the entry of 11.4 million visitors to Lombardy and neighboring regions, of which 8.5 million via Malpensa and 2.9 million via Linate, generating an estimated economic impact of 11.6 billion euros. It is a figure that reinforces the value of the Milanese airports not only as transport infrastructures, but also as engines for tourism, business travel and the economy of the territory.
Overall, the documents approved by SEA show a growing airport system, supported by the increase in traffic, the expansion of connectivity, infrastructure investments and the development of services.
