In Rome Fiumicino the "White Wall" by Pietro Consagra

The work of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art was inaugurated in the "Piazza" of Terminal 1, reinforcing the cultural itinerary promoted by Aeroporti di Roma

Aeroporti di Roma continues its path of enhancement of art in airport spaces with the arrival of "Muro Bianco" by Pietro Consagra in the "Piazza" of Terminal 1 of Rome Fiumicino airport. The work, made in 1975 in painted iron and donated by the artist to the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome in 1988, thus enters the heart of the Leonardo da Vinci, one of the busiest spaces in the airport.

The initiative stems from the collaboration between ADR and GNAMC, which began last year with the installation of "Grande folla n.1" by Giò Pomodoro, and confirms the desire to bring Italian art to places accessible to thousands of passengers every day.

Located in the "Square" of Terminal 1, the sculpture dialogues with the daily flow of Travellers from all over the world, transforming the airport from a simple place of passage to a meeting space between international mobility and Italian cultural heritage. Composed of four juxtaposed elements, the work expresses Consagra's research on frontality, on the relationship between surface and space and on the ability of sculpture to inhabit urban architecture without overpowering it.

Pietro Consagra, one of the protagonists of twentieth-century Italian art and founder in 1947 of the Forma 1 group, has contributed to redefining the language of sculpture through two-dimensional works designed to be crossed by the gaze and the relationship with the public. The presence of "Muro Bianco" in Fiumicino therefore places one of the masters of Italian abstraction in a contemporary, international context open to the general public.

The inauguration is part of a broader journey that in recent years has brought to Fiumicino works by great protagonists of Italian art, from Bernini to Giotto, from Giò Pomodoro to Jago, helping to make the experience of travel increasingly linked to culture and beauty.

The project continues in the coming months at Terminal 3 with the exhibition of "Bifrontale o Ferro bifrontale arancione", another work by Pietro Consagra from 1977, confirming the desire to build a widespread artistic path within the Roman airport system.
