In Fiumicino, inauguration of the new Open business center
Aeroporti di Roma has inaugurated Open - FCO Smart Workplace, the new business center built in the area in front of Terminal 1 of Rome Fiumicino Airport. The structure expands the range of professional spaces at Leonardo da Vinci and strengthens the airport's role as an integrated hub serving airlines, operators and the entire airport industrial district.
The new building, built between January 2024 and April 2026, covers a total area of 16,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 600 people. Inside, there are 70 offices and 35 meeting rooms, as well as modular spaces, shared areas and environments for conferences, events, workshops, networking and business meetings.

Open will become the headquarters of several airlines operating at Leonardo da Vinci, including ITA Airways, Emirates, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Air Canada.
The facility will also host handling companies, car rental operators and other businesses active in the airport. Thanks to its location in front of Terminal 1, the center can also be used by companies interested in organizing business meetings, events and representation activities directly inside the airport.
A building designed to reduce consumption and overheating
The new business center was designed by ADR Ingegneria and ADR Infrastrutture according to criteria of sustainability and architectural innovation, with the aim of obtaining LEED certification.
The solutions adopted include materials with low environmental impact and sloping facades designed to limit overheating of the building and improve the comfort of indoor environments.
A photovoltaic system of about 67 kWp was installed on the roof. Open is also equipped with a Building Management System for the intelligent control of consumption and space, low-consumption LED lighting and a dual network for the use of industrial water in services and systems.
Artificial intelligence for construction site safety
An intelligent video surveillance system based on artificial intelligence was also used during construction. The technology made it possible to monitor the activities of the construction site and to automatically detect any access to unauthorized areas or the failure to use personal protective equipment, helping to increase safety standards at work.
The work "Continuum" by Michela Picchi
The inauguration of Open was accompanied by the presentation of "Continuum", a site-specific work created in 2026 by Italian artist Michela Picchi.
The intervention, characterized by fluid and interconnected lines, dialogues with the spaces and volumes of the new building and is part of the Aeroporti di Roma program dedicated to the integration of art and culture in airport environments.

According to Aeroporti di Roma, the opening of Open represents a new stage in the growth path of Leonardo da Vinci and in the transformation of the airport into an increasingly integrated, sustainable and attractive airport for international companies and operators.
