New Ryanair hangars in Lamezia Terme
15 million euros and 300 new jobs for the development of the aeronautical industry in Calabria
Ryanair has announced a major expansion in Calabria with the construction of its first two hangars in southern Italy at Lamezia Terme Airport. The investment, amounting to 15 million euros, provides for the creation of 300 qualified jobs including engineers, mechanics and technical personnel, thus strengthening the company's presence in the region. The project, approved by ENAC, will allow Ryanair to expand its maintenance operations, supporting the growth of its fleet, which will reach 800 aircraft by 2034. The start of the works is expected in the coming months.
In addition to infrastructure investments in Lamezia Terme, Ryanair continues to focus on Calabria with a record summer schedule for 2025. The airline, which has been flying to the region since 2000 and has recently opened a second base in Reggio Calabria, will introduce 40 routes, including 13 new ones, and increase frequencies to 14 destinations. The addition of two new aircraft based in Calabria, for an additional investment of $200 million, will bring the regional fleet to four aircraft, supporting a total of more than 1,700 jobs.
This expansion is made possible by President Occhiuto's decision to abolish the municipal surcharge, favoring a 50% growth in traffic and improving Calabria's connectivity with the rest of Europe. Ryanair's commitment thus translates into new economic opportunities and greater accessibility for tourists and residents.
