New flight from Rome Fiumicino to Podgorica with Wizz Air

The new connection to the capital of Montenegro will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with the first flight scheduled for June 2, 2026

Wizz Air, one of the main airlines in Italy and leader in the European low-cost segment, continues its expansion in the country (today its most important market by number of passengers) by announcing a new direct route from Podgorica to Rome Fiumicino.

The connection will be operational from 2 June 2026, with two weekly flights (on Tuesdays and Saturdays) and will be served by modern Airbus A321neos, the latest generation aircraft that guarantee lower fuel consumption, greater efficiency and optimised passenger comfort.

Located between mountains, rivers and the Adriatic coast, Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, is a strategic point in the Balkans and an ideal destination for those who want to discover the country's natural landscapes and rich culture. The new route will thus offer a direct connection between the heart of Montenegro and Rome, opening up new travel opportunities for both tourism and business flows.

The opening of this route is part of Wizz Air's growth strategy in Italy, with Rome Fiumicino confirming its position as the airline's largest base in the country, thanks to:

  • 14 aircraft assigned,
  • 62 active routes to 24 countries,
  • over 580 direct employees.

During 2025, Wizz Air has already operated over 25,000 flights to and from Fiumicino, carrying more than 5.3 million passengers (+5.6% compared to 2024) with an average occupancy rate of 92% and a completion rate of 99.8%, among the highest in the industry. Since the start of operations in Rome, the company has carried more than 25.6 million passengers, and this year alone it will offer more than 7.4 million seats from the Italian capital. In Italy, Wizz Air now operates 245 routes in 32 countries, with a fleet of 27 Airbus A321neo distributed over 27 domestic airports. In 2025, it carried almost 16 million passengers, up +9.5% compared to the previous year.
