Turkish Airlines grows in Italy
Italians fly to Istanbul and also to the Turkish cities of Kayseri, Izmir and Ankara. While, with a stopover in Istanbul, they continue their journey to Manila (Philippines), Malé (Maldives) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan)
Turkish Airlines continues to strengthen its presence in Italy, recording significant growth in 2024. Last year, it carried 2,137,212 passengers from Italy, marking a 6% increase compared to 2023.
The fascinating Istanbul remains one of the most popular destinations, chosen as the final destination by 19% of Italian travelers, with an increase of 5.4% compared to the previous year. At the same time, the number of passengers who stopped in the city of Istanbul before continuing to other destinations in the company's extensive network grew by 7%.
To improve the experience of travelers in transit in Istanbul, Turkish Airlines offers the İstanbul Stopover Program, with free overnight stays for stopovers of at least 20 hours, and the Tourİstanbul Program, which offers free guided tours for layovers between 6 and 24 hours.
Among the Turkish cities most visited by Italians in 2024 are Kayseri, Izmir and Ankara, with a change from 2023, when Antalya was in the top three. Outside Turkey, however, the preferred destinations remain Manila (Philippines), Malé (Maldives) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
Another interesting fact concerns passengers traveling with pets, which increased by 9% compared to 2023. Turkish Airlines offers pet-friendly solutions to ensure safety and comfort, with the possibility of transporting animals in the cabin or in the hold, as well as dedicated services for their well-being.
Currently, Turkish Airlines operates flights from 9 Italian cities: Bari, Bologna, Catania, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome, Turin and Venice. Since 1959, the year of its first flight from Istanbul to Rome, the company has built a strong bond with the Italian market, consolidating its reputation for service excellence and network breadth.
Looking ahead to 2025, Turkish Airlines plans to increase seat availability for the Italian market, attract new travelers, and further improve connectivity through Istanbul, offering increasingly comprehensive and comfortable travel experiences. And, as specified by Harun Baştürk, Senior Vice President, Sales of Turkish Airlines, the airline's goal is to strengthen its connections between Italy and the 352 destinations in the world to which it flies while also increasing the frequency of flights and offering an increasingly better service for its passengers.
