Starlink on Qatar Airways Boeing 777s
More than 50% of the fleet is already equipped with high-speed connection, for free and unlimited connectivity for all passengers
Qatar Airways has reached a new milestone in onboard aircraft innovation, completing the installation of Starlink on the 30th Boeing 777, surpassing its initial plan by four months. To date, more than 50% of the airline's Boeing 777 fleet is equipped with Starlink's high-speed connection, making Qatar Airways the largest airline in the world to offer this service.
After launching the world's first flight with Boeing 777 equipped with Starlink in October 2024, Qatar Airways has exceeded its initial forecast for 2024, bringing the number of upgraded aircraft from 12 to 15 in just two months. Thanks to an optimized process, the airline reduced the time required for installation from three days to just 9.5 hours per aircraft, speeding up by 70% compared to the expected time. Interventions are carried out during a 12-hour night operating window, thus ensuring that there are no interruptions in flights and scheduling.
Free and unlimited connectivity for all passengers on board
Qatar Airways initially planned to complete the installation in two years. However, thanks to improvements in the process, the entire Boeing 777 fleet will be equipped with Starlink by the second quarter of 2025. This will allow passengers to stay connected for free for the duration of their air travel, whether they can enjoy streaming live movies and sports, online gaming, or working non-stop at 35,000 feet of altitude.
