High-altitude gaming with Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways has officially opened a new chapter in the world of travel and entertainment by launching the first-ever e-sports competition on board a commercial aircraft. The event, titled "Gaming in the Sky," took place on May 11 on a flight from Doha to London, thanks to the integration of Starlink connectivity, which provides ultra-fast, low-latency internet at 35,000 feet of altitude.
On board the Boeing 777, transformed into a digital arena, two teams (Team Burgundy Oryx and Team Grey Aviators) made up of some of the most famous personalities in global gaming competed: Tfue, Castro1021, Lisa Zimouche, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Dantic, SV2, AJ3, Aameghessib, Danny Aarons, Ffearfful, MattHDGamer and Slater, with the special participation of the host Oussifooty.
The meeting offered a seamless and immersive experience, broadcast live on Qatar Airways' official social channels, where fans and enthusiasts were able to follow highlights and exclusive content in real time.
The competition was held as the airline is close to completing the upgrade of its entire fleet of Boeing 777s with Starlink technology, and the introduction of the world's first Airbus A350 with the same connectivity, thus strengthening the carrier's leadership in in-flight technological innovation.
Qatar Airways is now the first and only airline in the MENA region to offer Starlink connectivity on board, as well as the airline with the largest fleet of wide-body aircraft already equipped with the system. The goal is clear: to guarantee all passengers unlimited navigation, with free access for streaming, work or play even in flight. With 'Gaming in the Sky', Qatar Airways offers a preview of what the future of the onboard experience will look like.
