FAA Certified HondaJet Elite II with Emergency Autoland
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified the Emergency Autoland (EAL) system for the HondaJet Elite II, making it the first production twin-engine very light business jet enabled to equip this autonomous emergency landing technology. The certification covers HondaJet Elite II aircraft registered in the United States.
The installation of the system has been met with strong interest from US owners and operators. Honda Aircraft Company also announced that it is pursuing EAL certifications in other international markets, with the aim of extending the same endowment to global customers. This technology, providing greater peace of mind during every flight.
Emergency Autoland
The Emergency Autoland system is designed to allow the aircraft to land autonomously in the event that the pilot becomes incapacitated. Activation can be done manually, by pressing a dedicated button, or automatically thanks to monitoring systems that detect any lack of reactivity of the pilot. Once activated, the system automatically transmits an emergency code and makes radio communications to alert air traffic control. The EAL-equipped aircraft is able to autonomously analyze weather conditions, orography, fuel level and runway size, selecting the most suitable alternative airport. The system then configures the aircraft for landing, follows the approach profile, performs the touchdown and applies the brakes until it comes to a complete stop on the runway.
By October 2024, the HondaJet Elite II had already become the first twin-engine very light business jet to equip the Autothrottle, a key technology related to the EAL system. Flight testing for Emergency Autoland certification concluded in October 2025, paving the way for the current FAA certification. Founded in 2006, Honda Aircraft Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and is responsible for the research, development, production, sales and service of the HondaJet Elite II. The world headquarters are located in North Carolina. In 2024, global deliveries of HondaJet exceeded 250 units. The company is also developing the new HondaJet Echelon, an 11-passenger jet that will be produced in North Carolina together with the Elite II, continuing the evolution of the global Honda brand.
