Cessna Citation Gen3: new technology and more safety for private light jets
Textron Aviation accelerates the renewal of the Cessna Citation family with the new CJ4 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and M2 Gen3, three light business jets designed to combine greater safety, advanced avionics and more refined cabins. The programs are advancing toward FAA certification, with CJ4 Gen3 and M2 Gen3 already engaged in flight testing.
The most significant element for passengers and operators is the introduction of the Garmin Emergency Autoland on all three models. The system is designed to intervene in case of emergency and automatically take the aircraft to a suitable airport, managing approach and landing.
CJ4 Gen3: the largest model in the new family
The Citation CJ4 Gen3 has already accumulated over 880 hours of flight testing with two aircraft dedicated to the certification program. It will be the largest model of the new generation Citation light jet and can also be operated by a single pilot. The maximum range is expected to be 2,165 nautical miles, with a configuration of up to 11 occupants. The new Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics will also debut on board, developed to make cockpit management more intuitive. FAA certification is expected during 2026.
CJ3 Gen3 and M2 Gen3 coming in 2027
The Citation CJ3 Gen3 , on the other hand, is preparing for its first flight and is expected to enter service in 2027. The model will offer a range of up to 2,040 nautical miles and can accommodate up to 10 occupants. Particular attention has also been paid to the interior, with swivel seats, RGB ambient lighting, new connectivity solutions and premium customization possibilities.
The more compact Citation M2 Gen3 has already begun flight testing and has accumulated nearly 20 hours of testing. Also in this case, the entry into service is scheduled for 2027. With a range of up to 1,550 nautical miles and a capacity for up to eight occupants, the M2 Gen3 focuses on practicality and comfort, with ambient lighting, wireless charging and USB-A and USB-C ports.
A new generation of light business jets
With the Citation Gen3 family, Textron Aviation therefore aims to make light jets increasingly technological and close to the standards of higher-category models. For those who use private aviation on regional or medium-haul routes, the evolution passes above all through automated safety, more advanced cockpits and more comfortable cabins, without sacrificing the operational flexibility that has always characterized the Citation family.
