Bombardier Global 8000 cleared to land at London City Airport
The Bombardier Global 8000 has been granted clearance from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate at London City Airport, effective immediately. The green light allows the ultra-long-range business jet to connect London non-stop with intercontinental destinations such as Singapore, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Buenos Aires, saving Bombardier an estimated 60-90 minutes in ground transfers compared to using alternative airports such as Farnborough or Luton.
An airport with specific operational requirements
Operating at London City Airport (EGLC) requires special performance. The airport is characterized by a short runway and steep approach procedures, also adopted to comply with the acoustic constraints related to the airport's position in the urban area.
The Global 8000 has been approved for these operations thanks to solutions that include an advanced wing with slat on the leading edge and a braking system designed to ensure adequate performance even on tracks with low operating margins.
The authorization is significant especially considering the category of the aircraft, designed for very long-range missions but also able to operate on more restrictive airport infrastructures.
8,000 nautical mile range and speeds up to Mach 0.95
The Global 8000 offers a claimed range of 8,000 nautical miles, or approximately 14,816 kilometers, and a top speed of Mach 0.95.
The combination of intercontinental range and take-off and landing performance expands the model's operational flexibility. According to Bombardier, the aircraft can reach up to 30% more airports than the nearest competitor.
The Global 8000 also integrates the features already associated with the Global family, including an equivalent low-altitude cabin and solutions designed to improve comfort on long-duration flights.
