27 ski resorts, 467 downhill slopes, 324 kilometres for cross-country skiing and 14 snow parks
The mountains of Lombardy, with their ski areas from Madesimo to Foppolo, from Bormio to Livigno, from Santa Caterina Valfurva to Ponte di Legno, without forgetting Piani di Bobbio and Valtorta, is a paradise for ski lovers.
Valtellina will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games Milan Cortina in 2026 and is the kingdom of skiing par excellence. The area includes several and large ski areas starting with Bormio, which offers 110 kilometers of slopes immersed in the Stelvio National Park, from which the most exciting slope in the ski area takes its name, as well as the traditional World Cup track.
The ski resort is divided into three areas that include Bormio, Santa Caterina Valfurva and Cima Piazzi-San Colombano, connected to each other thanks to the free shuttle service and a single ski pass. Inside the park there are paths suitable for snowshoeing to be covered in the company of mountain guides, cross-country trails and Nordic skiing trails.
The Livigno ski area is no different: 115 kilometers of slopes among which the black one loved by the most intrepid skiers and named after Giorgio Rocca, former alpine skier and World Cup winner, stands out. The Livigno lifts also boast the most famous Lombard snowpark, the Mottolino, one of the best in all of Europe.
In the Alpe Palù and Valmalenco area , the largest cable car in the world, the Snow Eagle, is used to reach the slopes, which goes from 985 meters above sea level to 2,078 meters. The ski area includes 60 km of downhill slopes and 37 km of cross-country trails.
In Madesimo, in Valchiavenna, where one of the first ski schools in Italy was born, winter sports lovers will find modern facilities, cross-country ski trails and the Madesimo Winter Trail, a nine-kilometer track on the snowy plateau suitable for the most experienced runners.
In the province of Brescia you can practice cross-country skiing in the enchanting Gaver plain in the Adamello Park, with its 5 km of complete loop and secondary routes it satisfies both beginners and those who want more technical routes.
Straddling the provinces of Brescia and Sondrio, between Valle Camonica and Valtellina is the Aprica - Corteno Golgi ski area, which connects the resorts of Palabione, Magnolta, Baradello and Campetti, the latter dedicated to children and beginners. The Pian di Gembro Nature Reserve and the town of Trivigno are home to cross-country trails and trails that can be traveled by fat bike or snowshoe. The super panoramic slope of Baradello, in the municipality of Corteno Golgi, is the longest illuminated slope in Europe.
Another important area in Lombardy, more precisely in the Brescia area, is the Pontedilegno-Tonale, where the historic Paradiso cable car is located which, from the Tonale Pass, reaches 3,000 meters above sea level of the Paradiso Pass. In addition to downhill skiing, the ski area is also renowned for off-piste, snowkiting and biathlon, which combines cross-country skiing and air rifle shooting. In Ponte di Legno a cross-country ski trail runs through the heart of the famous Valsozzine at the foot of the historic Giant Ski Jump.
In the heart of the Camonica Valley, on the border with the Val di Scalve, there is the Borno ski area, on the Altopiano del Sole, with its 10 slopes located on the northern slope of Monte Altissimo, available to winter sports enthusiasts. Further south, with a splendid view of the Lower Camonica Valley and Lake Iseo, the Montecampione ski area offers skiers 20 slopes that form a real panoramic terrace. While the Maniva ski area , on the border of the three Brescia valleys, has 17 slopes that reach 2,100 meters above sea level.
As for the Bergamo area, the Presolana-Monte Pora area boasts 30 kilometers of ski slopes ideal for families, beginners, but also for expert skiers. The Monte Pora ski area includes 22 slopes all connected to each other, which offer splendid alpine views that embrace landscapes ranging from Adamello to the Monte Rosa chain.
The Presolana ski area , on the other hand, includes a ski school that provides a team of 30 expert instructors on 12 kilometers of snow-covered slopes. The longest and most challenging slopes in the Bergamo valleys are located in the Colere ski resort, which also includes a snow park perfect for families.
